Unveiling of the Full Frame Prototype

A Japanese site features photos of the unveiling of the FF prototpye.

Sadly, it is just a 3D print again, but one can see the back of the camera with an enormous screen.

More images of the Pentax FF mock-up at Gigazine.

The large articulating screen looks promising. Thanks for posting.

The FA 31 looks tiny on the front of the FF.

If anything, it'll be a tilt-screen like the 645Z.

That looks awesome, something I might be able to afford a few years from now when it's "old". I am glad they have finally done this.

I'm particularly glad they've done it in such a public way, in front of all their peers and the world media, and accompanied by the launch of some modern, real FF lenses. There seems no turning back now, without losing a lot of face.

Indeed, this time if they cancel, they'd be in deep troubles.
But they won't, they look way too bold about it.

Still no mention of what Pentax is going to call it yet.

The scale of the VF/pentaprism housing suggest that this camera may have a rather high VF magnification and VF coverage - this could be a sign that Pentax will break the current trend of 0.71X 98% viewfinders like what is found in the 5DMKIII class cameras

I agree, they have way too much riding on this.

"I'm feelin it!" Kind of makes me want to postpone my approaching lens purchases but, both of my bodies are still less than a year old.

Looks awesome. Don't know when I'll be able to afford it, but it WILL happen! The main things that I'm liking so far:
  • Giant glass OVF!
  • Tilty screen
  • No video switch under my thumb (I'm lookin' at you, K-3)
  • One or two extra buttons, looks like
  • I can use my 43 Ltd as a wide normal on digital!
  • Presumably has SR (based on indentation where badge normally goes)

Don't care about:
  • Megapixel count
  • FPS
  • Super-duper AF

So that's my idiosyncratic list. My "don't care" list obviously is other people's "wish list".

Will be interesting to see where they position this model. As (presumably) the only Pentax FF model, it will have to be a great all-rounder like the K-3. High-res enough, fast enough AF, fast enough FPS, etc. Exciting times for Pentaxians!
