Perhaps we could start naming them similarly to major storms or hurricanes.... introducing the Pentax Steve and the Pentax Marie. That is about as useful as the current naming. But at least we are not dealing with Canon-like naming where a 60d is 'inferior' to a 6d yet a 5dII is 'better' than both of them.
K2 is a mountain in Himalaya, much harder to climb than Mount Everest. That's why they called the camera K2 40 yars ago. It means that it was the top of cameras, the best. So it it not so meaningless. When Pentax shifted from the Ist name, the first had the K100D and K110D. Then came the K10D, which was simular to Canon, lower number, better camera. Followed by K20D and K200D, still like Canon, which had EOS 30D, EOS 40D. They probably found out that they should leave this when they broke with Samsung.
So they chose K-7, K-5 and K-3, all odd numbers for crop factor. Including the K-01, where 0 is for 0 mirror.
So a FF can be numbered K2 (K-2) and it will be the peak once again. Later they can cose to use II, III like Canon 1D MI and so on. Or they could use K4, K6, K8. And remeber what they have for sale in Japan T-shirts an so on with "K2 always with you".
So the naming isn't that meaningless.
And why is the smallest camera called Q? After James Bond's Q, who delivers the most famous and sophisticated toys for adults. Why should they otherwise call it a "toylens" and "Standard prime lens"? It's after the lines of Bonds standard weapon in every movie, and standard about what kind of toys Q has delivered this time. It's obvious.
