Could it point to the fact that Pentax has decided to make it full-frame (thus bulkier and heavier)?
I'm not thinking so. What full-frame camera [legacy film cameras only] could AF focus it? Wouldn't that be interesting and telling of the future if so... but I'm skeptical about that.

(for all thoes scratching your head, Geocache [using gps to find clues or treasures in a game] have gotten a lot of news latly for bomb-calls, see idiots put it in a box or pipe that is often in-properly marked and placed in a rather odd local like a playground so someone comes along go's OMG!!!! 911)

I imagine the old PZ cameras could- They do have the contacts for power, but I guess if they also need to supply data to the lens as well then they wouldn't *shrug*

ftp, looking at it it seems as if they've decreased the diameter, not increased it. Course, I could be wrong. My eyes ain't all that great.

I'd go the Tamron route if moved to.
I really want the HSM for, hopefully, increased focussing speed. I already have a non-HSM one, so don't need the Tamron.

there's no excuse for pentax to not have this lens out. it's almost at a point of being mythical and inexcusable that such an important lens could be delayed for so long. and most likely, it will show up at a price that isn't competitive either.

What would you consider a competitive price (and what do you see as the competition)?

i don't use telephoto lenses so perhaps i am highly misniformed. but it seems like that 60-250 kind of range is key for a lot of photographers and without it, pentax is missing a big market. no one does that telephoto range better than Canon's venerable 70-200. to be competitive, hopefully the price should fall in between the f4 standard and IS versions.

Roadmap

It seems like these lenses exist for such a long time on the roadmap before showing up, which always makes me think how long for a lens to possibly come out that isn't even on the roadmap yet. I'm thinking Pentax should develop a Roadmap to future roadmaps.

Just got an email from Pentax Canada which said the 60-250mm is expected to be released "late November" with no firm release date, and that they wouldn't provide me with specs on the lens until closer to that time.

Think the specs are changing? f2.8 maybe?

Larger lens barrel, tripod collar, heavy delays and the fact that I can get a decent 70-210 constant f/4.5 for $80 makes me feel certain that it is going to be an f/2.8.

Well, I won't let myself be certain with anything related to that lens... let alone it even every arriving! But I'm here with fingers crossed it's f/2.8 or f/3.2 or f/3.5 even... Every little bit helps especially when the skies are gray where you'd likely be using a weather sealed lens moreso than another one, and the reason I'd be looking to buy it (yes, it's better sealed against dust too, I know). But I'm more likely to think delays are for other reasons than change of specs... but still, fingers crossed.

... or maybe Full Frame. Who knows?
If I remember correctly the initial info of the lens was DFA 60-250/4, so maybe they've decided to make it DFA after all.
And the info that Samsung is working on a FF sensor fits to this very well.

So, interesting time ahead!
