I held off on v1.30 for the K10D for most of the time that I owned the camera and only finally upgraded when I bought an AF lens without screw drive.

Wanna brick a motherboard or one of its subsystems? Start fiddling with the firmware.

Steve
I'll add that most manufacturers will clearly state that upgrading firmware is at user's own risk (as lame as it may seem).

Yep. I defy anyone to name a successful manufacturer of any product that has a flawless record. People produce products. People aren't perfect.

It's a conspiracy. This bug sabotages the K-3 so you have to buy a K-3ii. Its actually all very brilliant planning on Rico's part. Codename: Backlight

They used Operation: Delayed Mirror Flop on my K5, only triggered by reading about it 6 months after the warranty expired...

Further wisdom dictates to wait until the early adopters have sussed out any problems with a new firmware update.
If anything, Ricoh is following tech industry norm by releasing an update into the wild with minimal testing.

Thank you Early Adopters! Ricoh now knows it has a buggy firmware and I know to pass on 1.20. I'll be watching
and waiting when 1.21 comes out. History has taught me I won't have long to wait before the Early Adopters do
their job.

I think the Boss here might squelch that idea.
I thought the same and it was a No Go and got closed. ...guess the K3II hasn't earned its distinct place yet ?
Maybe if we keep trying it will slip by unnoticed ?.....we could do a Mass Posting ?....lol.
Someone distract him with images of steaming Doughnuts over on the K3 satire thread.....and numbers of us can multi-post while hes drooling....lol

Jim King over on the other forum posted today that flicking the shutter switch to the preview position makes the screen go black. Haven't tested it myself yet but I was wondering why I was not bothered by this bug much. Perhaps this is why.

True. It does. But the second you touch the shutter button, the rear screen illumination comes on again. So it's not really a fix.

Outside or in good light it isn't noticeable. I haven't noticed an appreciable difference in battery use either. If you are inside or in very low light it is annoying.
