Originally posted by stevebrot Conventional wisdom is that there is little value and often some risk in upgrading firmware (except, perhaps, once when the device is new) unless there is a specific fix or enhancement you are needing. I held off on v1.30 for the K10D for most of the time that I owned the camera and only finally upgraded when I bought an AF lens without screw drive.
Wanna brick a motherboard or one of its subsystems? Start fiddling with the firmware.

Further wisdom dictates to wait until the early adopters have sussed out any problems with a new firmware update.
If anything, Ricoh is following tech industry norm by releasing an update into the wild with minimal testing.
Thank you Early Adopters! Ricoh now knows it has a buggy firmware and I know to pass on 1.20. I'll be watching
and waiting when 1.21 comes out. History has taught me I won't have long to wait before the Early Adopters do
their job.
