AF will be improved. So no point in that discussion.

I think you missunderstand the AF issue with K-3. We know the Mackenzie of speed is due to the SDM. The issue from the K-3 is the central AFfocus point which is too big and because of that not précise enough. I wish it was smaller.
I think you are thinking of the K-5 AF points. The center point was the size of a golf ball and grabbed everything but what was in the middle. K-3 is much improved and on par with other systems I have used.

Doesn't anyone else find it suspicious that a 18-55 kit lens would be pictured with it rather than the new 18-50 RE lens?

What? Everything is discussed here. Occasionally we even talk about photography.

Improved? Faster? More Accurate? Better tracking?

For years Pentax AF-C struggled to keep up with sleeping cats. Millions of burry cat pictures have been posted here.

Any improvements to color or white balance. Is Ricoh continuing to develop their multi-area white balance?

Pentax/Ricoh marketing probably stole the picture from a micro-stock site and then did a bad Photoshop job on it. Wouldn't be the first time.

Improved on all parts. Will notice most on AF-C, especially in low light.

I'm still surprised that nobody has dared to offer a 25x25 or 30x30 camera sensor; I've no idea of resulting crop factors & don't really care. Just use a larger chunk of the lens' best zones and we'll manage our crop ratios later, thanks.
The mirror. The mirror box. The Horror!

Ricoh/Pentax has made cameras as small as possible. Buy a 645D. Crop as you wish.

The too large center point was certainly true on the k-5. But on the k-3 that is just not the case. This morning I was out shooting and got some nice shots of a Great Blue Heron. Center point focus on it's head. Which in the frame was not much larger than the little red square that lights up. Not the "( )", the little red square. Nice contrasty trees behind it and I really expected it to be hard to nail. But nope, I've got 20 plus frames of solid lock on the head. Some are sharp, some are soft but that was me moving or the bird moving, the focus point is bang on.

Agreed. The high density of the AF sensors in the centre part of the K-3's AF system is apparent in the image below, and in use.
No 'dinner plate' sized central AF point here.

So your saying all the AF points will be F/2.8?

IS there a lens being released with the new K-3II. Lens AF speed is still the weakest link. No reason to improve the K-3 AF unless you have some glass that is as fast as the camera.

So,

Many, many f2.8 rated cross type AF points, dispersed all over the viewfinder, able to track a black cat in a coal mine.

Great.

My guess is that tthis AF system was actually developed for the coming FF and that they are putting it in the new K3 to be able to sort out possible teething pains by the time FF gets released.
