I am going to guess that the K3II is essentially an APS-C version of the FF, and Pentax is using this as a pre-FF production run to work out all the manufacturing / assembly bugs, so that the FF production goes out smoothly.

Snapsort, which is used by many to organize a comparison of two cameras, shows the $900 K-3 to already surpass the $1700 7Dii.
Score - Canon EOS 7D Mark II vs Pentax K-3
Canon advocates whine that the DXO ratings are biased, but DXO routinely shows Canon sensors to have real problems
If you just go on sensor score, sure the K-3 is better than the 7DII... but then so is the K500. But sports and wildlife photography is about a lot more than sensor scores, and in respect to other equally important things, it just gets outclassed.

Now that we've read everyone's personal opinions on the value of the sensor technology and the onboard flash, does anyone have any factual news about the new camera?

My feeling is that the K-3 won't be withdrawn from sale, but you will have the choice of K-3 or K-3ii. I think it will be sold as a model variation.

PS:
In defence of the K-3's auto focus: The other night i was using my 55-300 at 300mm (i.e.: f/5.8) and it would easily and decisively focus on any visible star.

I don't get the complaints about AF on the K3, but then I also didn't have nearly the AF problems on my K5 that some did.

Agree!! & as Kenspo has said..there will be a new sensor..so the leaked specs are wrong there !! Must be some form of Japanese humor/sarcasm to torment the west!! or some hair regain firm looking to make a killing

No, we'll just be expressing opinions for the next 21 hours or so.

The K3II actually has more improvements then I expected. The Flue card is a big let down. Built in Wi-Fi is so easy to do. Lack of a flip out LCD is a disappointment, but I didn't expect it.

We knew they couldn't have just one camera with Flucard support because they have to recoup their cost.

Well might consider it since I've been thinking of upgrading my K-r.

I will NOT buy any camera with out at least tilting display or tilting EVF. To take close up pictures close the ground is really difficult with NOT tilting display or EVF.
For sure I could use 90 degree loop, but that is not so convinient.
It mentioned control with smartphone or tablet! I think that is much better than tilt display, especially when taking photo in low light condition.

Pixel shift superresolution works great on the E-M5 II. Can't wait to see it on a Pentax DSLR.

Never had a need for the onboard flash, not sad to see it gone.

I'll bet this camera costs a lot less than the K-3 did when it was introduced.

Translation is not real good. Pixel shift, GPS, and a couple of performance improvements. Nice step up, but If you already have a K-3 I'm not sure its worth the upgrade.

I'm sure that some will upgrade, but I have a K-3 and won't be. I like it and honestly, I see nothing here to make me want to switch.

That entirely depends on what you are trying to accomplish; for the application you responded to, namely taking pictures close to the ground, I am willing to believe that remote control would work even better. For the application closest to my heart, taking pictures while trying to be inconspicuous, such as traditional "street photography", a phone or tablet would just be one more thing to juggle; the best situation is a simple flippy screen (not even an articulated screen that sticks out from the body), so you can look down at your camera and appear to be "fiddling" with settings while in fact taking the picture. However, to be totally fair, the K-S2 would probably be a better camera for that application than any K-3 would be.
