That's exactly how I feel about the new camera!

So you are interested in Pentax , yes but no or maybe yes if. In short, you mean that Pentax does not have a great choice of lenses and you stay with Nikon (get the actual message behind the lines).
I think the post is more like... "any suggestions what I should get? Are there any viable choices I have overlooked?

Though a new thread might be more appropriate to get good answers.

I think it sounds on par for a Mark II. They are usually upgrades on the same equipment and not a new style of camera. It should target buyers who will leap frog from an older camera (mine K5 IIs) to the K3 IIs. The idea is to tweak what could have been better and then offer the upgrade. This is probably not the camera for K3 owners. Pentax is filling the gap with this camera and making their best, better. Later this year the FF will come out and that will be the talk of the town.

Wait till we see that glorious new sensor's DR and high ISO performance, you might then change your mind...

Do I have to remind folks on the K5/ii/s model upgrades, same sensor---> improved AF ----> lack of AA filter (about the gist of it)
The K3 had a page or so of features, the K3ii added and additional page. I don't know what people mean by an "expected" Mark II update (since its relative) but make no mistake, this many features on a Mark II release is UNPRECEDENTED (for any dslr maker). I don't need a flipping 'effing screen to realize this, hope others agree...
.......peace out

It's a little bit less complicated than that. On both the crop-sensor and full-frame fronts, I'm 99% third-party in my wide and ultra-wide lens needs, and none of the lenses offered have weather sealing. Pentax has a lot to offer, therefore, conssidering that at least Rokinon and Sigma and Tamron are all contenders, though not Tokina. So really, the only lenses I'm bummed about not having access to are f/2.8 ultra-wides for DX and FX.

I'm happy to start a new thread, of course. I just thought there might be a simple answer such as "Yes, we might see a new WR ultra-wide for APS-C and/or FF in the near future, either f/2.8 or f/4" I hope to not hijack this thread for more than such a 1-sentence reply... :-)

As far as specific fast, uwa, wr, dc lenses we haven't received any words yet. My words for new threads and active participation was not delivered in frustration but as a suggestion in furthering the dialogue...

After reviewing the K-3 for SLR Lounge over a year ago, I'm still highly tempted by Pentax, and now the K-3 II is coming. As an astro-landscape and adventure photographer, The K-3 and K-3 mk2 are EXACTLY what I'm looking for in a DSLR; every one of the features that people have listed here as "not exactly deal-sealers" for current K-3 owners are right up my alley, and extremely tempting.
You're exactly who Pentax is trying to reach. Sigma's 8-16mm f4.5-5.6 is the widest for any APS-C cameras, I believe, but it's not weather-sealed. It could be slow for astrophotography. Pentax is planning to put out a new 12-28-like APS-C zoom lens which is hopefully weather-sealed, but nobody except for Pentax knows when it comes out.

Yes, two of such lenses are in the current roadmap:

I'm hoping the omitted flash of the K3ii means the high iso performance of this new sensor will be a significant improvement over the last.

Thanks for posting that roadmap, very cool! I've often thought if they made the 35mm macro lens WR (or another WR prime around 28 to 35mm), I'd probably buy one and keep it on my k3 90% of the time when hiking & biking.

Lots of nice feature additions to the K-3II!

Not sure what you mean by "flipping 'effing", but I will say that an articulated LCD would be one of the main things I'd miss if switching from a Nikon D5300 and D750 combo to a K-3 II. They are damn handy, for high-angle / low-angle landscape and nature work. I'm getting too old for all the crouching and stretching...

If it has pixel shift tech, better SR (4.5 stops) and improved AF.C, and if improved DR, that's pretty substantial. That's all about IQ and getting a sharp image...the most important things a camera can offer.

I understand about the LCD - it functions as the modern refconverter (Right-Angle Finder).

There have been a few sensible posts on that issue amidst all the breast thumping (not to infer anything about your Reply). It was pointed out the hinged LCD will require a complete body re-design. Pentax can't just stick a hinged LCD on the back of the current body. The current basic body has been around since the K-7 - something like 5 or 6 years. Since the FF will be a completely new body design, some have suggested it will be the first small-format flagship Pentax with a hinged LCD (and that basic body will likely also be used for APSc cameras in the next round of new releases).

Of course, right now we can buy a K-S2 and have an articlating LCD and on-board Wi-Fi if those are high-priority features.

The K-7 held out a long time... K-7, K-5 and K-5 II/IIs are IIRC identical, but the K-3 certainly needed new moldings or whatever they use to create the shape of the body. Looking at the K-3 II you can see how they tried hard to change as little as possible (creating a slightly awkward look), so that's why a flippy screen was out of the race. I think that will come with the K-3 II successor, when it gains a new number and a new body.

I hope Pentax won't use the FF as basis for the top of the line APS-C cameras, unless it really is a wonder in miniaturization. Certain design ideas and parts like a flippy screen, perhaps. The overall UI, button arrangement... but the K-3 successor should be as small as it can be, and not be a bit bigger just because they can then recycle parts.
