Original K3 does not have a compass

The new panning control of the SR feature almost certainly makes use of the built in compass to know which direction the camera is panning. The original K3 does not have a compass.

From the Adorama article:

"Additionally, the new panning detection feature on the K-3 II detects the moving direction of the camera and controls the SR unit."

Woe is me! When will Pentax stop introducing products so attractive that I am forever compelled to spend most of my discretionary income acquiring them?

Could those images of the flowers and NYC taxis possibly be from the K3II?

Seems a very formidable landscape camera with the Foveon like resolution and per pixel color accuracy, coupled with astrotracer capability and the already excellent interface/features/performance on the K3.

It seems to me that Pentax indeed can find a niche among the bigger players, offering something that the others can't.
Can't wait for the FF too, which would probably have these features.

When will the firmware update be out for the K-3? That's what really matters...
You mean the one that was just released? Or the one that addresses the bug fixes of the one just released?

Or do you mean the one that will turn our K-3 into a K-3 II Lite? I'd suspect it would be some time after the release
of the upgraded body. No point in satisfying current owners with a free upgrade when there are surely a few
punchy individuals eager to spend real coin.

The increased SR looks very attractive too. Hope it really shows up on the longer lenses where the current SR is a bit more iffy than optical stabilization.

The compass is not accurate enough for that. the accelerometer (used for orientation detection, tilt, etc) would be much more useful for this, so yes, the K-3 could get it. And I hope it does.

Lol! I think everyone is uptight with any info they can get even if it's just hours before the announcement...
