I hear lots of folks pooh-pooh the popup flash, but it seems like whenever I need it for a little fill, it produces something special. I use it as a controller for most of the flash photos I take outside of a studio setting. The lack of a controller for off-camera P-TTL was one of the reasons the K01 has gotten less use than it could have.

I could end up getting one of these bodies for the extra resolution effect, but never would I opt to trade the flash for a GPS.
"Lots" of folks? I read more people saying they don't use it, than the one or two saying "Good riddance". But that's the Internet effect for you. I'm in the 'don't care' category, since I last used the pop-up flash about three bodies ago, but I acknowledge I'm speaking for myself. I don't really believe Ricoh marketing didn't do their homework and discover that most users don't care much about the pop-up flash.

I travel a fair bit, and I know I'll find the GPS unit more useful as an on-board feature than the flash. However, I'll repeat what I said elsewhere - LEDs will eventually replace built-in flash units and I'm a little surprised that hasn't happened yet. Maybe we'll see a tiny hotshoe accessory first.

These upgrades bode well for turning the successor to the K-3 and its MkII into yet another true upgrade for me in the future. One thing I was impressed by with the Nikon D7200 is what looks like a "drive mode" wheelyknob underpinning the mode dial (like where Pentax currently has the "lock unlock" that I find useless). I'd like something like that. One less thing to go to the menu for.

If I'm ready to upgrade when that comes out, Pentax/Ricoh will have my money in a heartbeat. Just hoping that they keep the DBG-5 by that time.

For now, hoping they will release new firmware for the K-3 ASAP that fixes the LCD issue as well as either adds new features or greatly improves something (anything).

The two big improvements are the pixel shift and astrotracer. Both have no functioneren in my work. Look like a good camera to me.

PIXEL SHIFT looks awesome!

The increase of resolution from PIXEL SHIFT looks impressive!
Have a look at this picture from the Pentaxeros Spanish forum:
Nueva Pentax K-3 II - Pentaxeros.com

Compare how many additional details were captured in the PIXEL SHIFT picture (on the right). Look at the texture from quadrichromy!
Well done, Pentax-Ricoh!

Ok, K-3 II reserved five minutes ago. Turns out I am the first one in Finland to make the reservation, at least at Top Shot, who are probably the most important Pentax reseller in the country :-)

Price here is 999 euros and expected delivery at the end Of May.

This looks really great. I wouldn't call it a minor update if it turns out to work so well as pictured here.

I had a Garmin that would take 5 minutes to acquire satellites.
Must have been an ancient one. Even my relatively old tech Garmin eTrex 30 finds enough satellites to get a bearing in about 3 seconds, indoors or out. I hope the Pentax GPS supports GLONASS, like the eTrex The more usable satellites, the better.

And on the subject of the Pixel Shift tech, I assume it will boost resolution. Combining a non-AA filter with Pixel Shift tech promises effective resolution of much more than one might expect from a 24MP sensor.

But will Pixel Shift also boost dynamic range and signal to noise ratio? I presume Pixel Shifted images can be saved as 14bit RAW's, not just 8 bit JPG's....

I will also be curious to see how DxOMark score the K-3 II. Will DxOMark include Pixel Shifted output in it's score?
Plus how will existing RAW processors (DxO Optics Pro, C1, Lightroom etc) handle Pixel Shift RAW's? Many already have trouble with Foveon.

I know, my Pocket Wizards too.
I just remember the trigger market something like 8-9 years ago - it was "PW or nothing" in terms of reliability. Chinese triggers were really crappy...
