"Maybe we should all try to simplify and care just a little bit less about the gear. Find the three lenses that work for us, grab a body or two, and just go shoot."

"And after all, it’s not your gear that gets you the great shot; it’s you."

Yes, great read. I can't wait to how TCS guys are going to hammer the K-3ii

Thanks for sharing, this bit says a lot, really

QuoteQuote:
as much as Nikon Rumors’ readers, DPReview’s readers, and our own readers might all know about it and agree, all the dads and moms at Best Buy won’t care one bit because they will not have heard a thing when they line up to buy that Nikon D5500 with the 55-200mm kit lens to take photos at their daughters’ cheerleading competitions.
Sadly, all true. Pentax will remain a minority/specialist brand as few will have heard of us or know how good the stuff can be but hopefully, it will grow and developments like K-3 II and the full frame can only help this rebuilding process. And it tells me that Ricoh do have the will and determination to re-establish Pentax as a major brand.

"It’s not even up to Pentax. That part is up to the market. Even Pentax executives can’t ignore a lack of sales if that’s what happens. And then again, they could sell out. They could sell more and more and introduce more and more lenses and finally restore their name to what its pre-digital glory. "
I like this part. This is making me want to upgrade from my K-30. Decisions decisions...

Interesting read.
I'd rather Ricoh maintain quality, than save a few bucks here and there to increase sales. There's no need to swap systems, you could just get a K3 if it's really so desirable. I don't remember any rule that all your cameras and lenses have to be the same brand.

I don't know about this article. On the one hand, it's not difficult to agree with the author's summarising paragraphs about not being too fussed about your gear, and just going out and shooting. On the other, is it also a bit coincidental to note that the big players aren't doing much new stuff, so you shouldn't bother about moving to a small player who is? I don't know the author's previous work, so I leave it as a question that those who do may respond to (heaven forfend that anyone might think I'm leading a crucifixion party ).

Still, it's nice to have one's chosen brand recognised for its efforts, even if it reads a little like faint praise...

It will be hard for Ricoh to pull existing Professionals. Ricoh needs to concentrate on the next generation of professionals. They need to position themselves as the alternate brand. "Be different" "Stand out". At the same time they have to have the support and the products that meet the needs of the next generation.

The competition with Canon and Nikon will be very tough on one side and Fuji and Sony are closing the gap with mirrorless on the other side. The products can't just be good. They have to be special.

"Professionals" covers a fairly wide range. I wonder if we think of only news, wedding or sports photographers when we hear that word in this context. I think Ricoh is positioning Pentax for the wilderness/adventure style of professional. I doubt even Canon and Nikon can provide the sort of support to photographers deep in the desert or jungle that they can to those covering metropolitan subjects.

I'm assuming The Camera Store TV. But they love Pentax. The K3 episode was a rave review. They loved the 645Z except for video. They only disliked the KS1 because it seemed to not have any user demographic in mind. Besides, they were both drunk.

I know a Canon wildlife shooter who for years has taken notice of my photos. I think he is one of the better ones and has a small following. To put a long story short he occasionally asks me questions about Pentax. He read about the rumored FF camera and asked me about it. I told him about the pixel shifting technology. I sent him links I found on this site. It seemed to me he wanted the Pentax FF camera that day.
