Zhongyi Speed master 85mm f1.2 announced

This lens will be available from the second half of 2015 in Pentax K-mount - good timing for the FF Pentax. I'm not sure if it was known about or rumoured before.

The Japanese price is about 100,000 yen, with initial availability in Nikon, Canon and Sony FE mounts.

MF only, I assume? I wonder how it compares to the Samyang 85/1.4?

It's quite a bit more expensive. Comparison with the Canon 85 1.2 L

Yeah, we had a thread about it some months ago. A lot of people were interested because it is f1.2, but there was also a lot of skepticism because it is Mitakon (previous lenses were fully manual, not very good, optically) and so expensive.

It's low class optically. Free cheese is only in mousetrap.

Apologies. I thought this was something new, but it must just be the Japanese release of the lens. Seems very expensive for what it is.

Why don't lenses like this ever some with aperture preset mechanisms? It can't be because it would hinder any strange use case I'm not aware of, since if you set the preset to the smallest aperture there is no difference from not having a preset. My best guess is because the people who make these have never used old lenses (which often have presets), so the idea just never occured to them. My other guess is that they think the (small) cost of making such a mechanism would not be worth it because only idiots buy their lenses. Any other ideas?

Interesting conclusion. In this video, there is very, very little difference between the cheaper 85mm lens and the Canon, and the ZY lens actually shows less chromatic aberration. It may be low-class mechanically, but the optics look pretty darn good.

SPEEDMASTER 85mm F1.2
I can understand this high price tag is trying to mark Zhongyi not being a cheap brand. But it is really not cheap...
