From what Sony has been saying about the 42mp sensor in interviews, it should perform better than the 36mp in every way, so I see little reason for Ricoh to go with the old one. It would hardly be an aggressive move to come out with something that Nikon has been using for several years and that Sony has just discontinued use of.

One of the few bits of definitive information that Ricoh actually shared about the Pentax FF of that it would have an APS-C crop mode. That would seem to rule out a 20mp sensor.

So, I'm guessing it will have a 42mp sensor. But I also think a second cheaper model with a more modest mp count will be available soon.

Ricoh's french marketing and communication manager told me we should have good news "very quickly in the (next) autumn".

would they bring out 2, the 36 for the high pixel mob and a 20 for the high iso mob, frankly the 20 with high iso for low light interest me, couple that with a K-3 II or its sucsessor might be a pretty good combo

So is a Pentax digital FF body.. ;cP

I think Ricoh will make this body more about high DR, low noise imagery... perhaps without the 4k video... and less about sheer MP. Rugged, outdoorsy bodies with decent DR seem to be the Pentax digital thing. And it seems Ricoh wouldn't want to upset the 645Z sales by making this thing too close to it. Without the extra video bits, that could put it in the 3-4k price range maybe..

I definitely don't think it will be a sensor we've already seen used previously..
3-4k price range? That could definitely be considered shooting themselves in the foot.

with an estimated price of 2000 euros for the FF body we can surely forget about the new 42mp sensor from sony. I bet its the same 36mp thats in the D800/D810.. hopefully with a little boost from the pentax engineers
who wants to make a bet?

Pentaxeros did already invoice 800€ for pre-order out of a presumed 2000 € for total cost...
I still think it will be under 3 K USD at present rate.

Nikon and Canon can sell cameras in that range. Why shouldn't Ricoh be able to do the same? That is unless you think Pentax is an intrinsically lower value brand.

Found the 'article' about the D5.. coming right around the same time as this Pentax FF. Considering how Nikon and Pentax bodies tend to use the same sensors, and looking at the suggested release date of this Nikon body vs the Pentax, I strongly suspect Ricoh will use the same sensor and thus have similar features (and sadly pricing!) Nikon D5 Rumored to Pack 4K and a Native Max ISO of 102,400
Sony doesn't manufacture he sensor in the D4 and probably wont be manufacturing the sensor in the D5. Renesas has manufactured the sensor in the D3, D3s, D700, D3200, D3100, D4, & D4s. The chance of seeing the Nikon designed D5 sensor in a Ricoh body are less than zero.

The 20MP is not going to be in the Ricoh FF. Its not a Sony sensor.

No, sorry. But it would surprise me if they only released one FF. I think the reaction by the marked on the first FF will decide the future way.

Well based on previous speculations for future Pentax Cameras, take the best case scenario and then reduce it by 30% and there you will have what is delivered.

2 FF - 30% = 1,4 FF, right ?
