Sure. It's a Pentax lens rebranded as Pentax.

The press release mentions that they intend on releasing Sony A versions (i.e. no SR/VR/IS) of these lenses a few months down the road.
That would make it trivial to release a similar K version too.

Michael
Technically i agree, but i think much of the value (in $) is attributed to the VC system, if used on Canon/Nikon. On Sony and Pentax its a different situation since it would compete against lots of other non-VC lenses that doesn't have a price premium because of unique VC in its class. Tamron would have to lower the price (compared to the Canon/Nikon mount versions) to stay competitive in the Sony and Pentax mount marked, but i doubt they will.

Why buy a Tamron 45mm f/1,8 for 600 $ when you can get a Pentax DA* 55mm f/1,4 for 630 $? Both are performing well on FF.
Or why buy a Tamron 35mm f/1,8 for 600 $ when you can get a Sigma 18-35 f/1,8 for 800 $? Both are performing well on FF at (24-) 35mm.

On APS-C:
Why buy a Tamron 45mm f/1,8 for 600 $ when you can get a Pentax DA 50mm f/1,8 at 100 $?
Or why buy a Tamron 35mm f/1,8 for 600 $ when you can get a Sigma 30mm f/1,4 ART at 500 $?

Or the FA 35/2 (330$), FA 43/1,9 (500$), or FA 50/1,4 (300$) just to mention a few more options. I think it will struggle to compete on K-mount at the current prices.

42 Mpix is so 2015... In the future you will need 120 Mpix:

Canon Global : Canon developing next-generation imaging devices to expand the possibilities of visual expression

Featuring a resolution of approximately 120 effective megapixels, the SLR camera now being developed will incorporate a Canon-developed high-pixel-density CMOS sensor within the current EOS-series platform, which will realize compatibility with the Company’s diverse interchangeable EF lens lineup.3 The high-resolution images that the camera will be capable of producing will recreate the three-dimensional texture, feel and presence of subjects, making them appear as if they are really before one’s eyes. The camera will facilitate a level of resolution that is more than sufficient for enlarged poster-sized printout while also enabling images to be cropped and trimmed without sacrificing image resolution and clarity.

Out of the 96 lenses that make up the EF lens lineup, 60 models will be compatible with the SLR camera under development.

And, of course, none of this is relevant to anything Pentax is doing. When the 50MP Canon was announced, I posted that my back-of-envelop calculations showed its sensor would be as crowded as a typical APS-C sensor, thus forfeiting the advantages normally going with FF. After it did come out, various people who used it said that its low-light behavior is totally unacceptable for a FF camera. One guy who rents out cameras returned the 5DS he had bought. I think Pentax should ignore the high-MP circus.

Even cooler if they could offer a pixel binning mode to give 20 MP but with all of the color information, kind of like the pixel shift but with out the need to shift.

You can do that with a simple postprocess. It's just an over-simplified demosaicing.

No, what would have been cool is if they could bring out a 32mp digital back for all the great old film bodies.

Unfortunately, most of these initiatives failed to make it to market... like the Silicon Film EFS-1 Electronic Film System or the DigiPod which never raised enough money for the startup company, or the RE35 which is still vapor ware I think. Nikon patented something in 2012, but I guess they shelved it. They are a band aid at best, and clunky to use. I mean, sure, there would be a nostalgic fun factor for some of us (myself included) or might appeal to the Holga type crowd, but I think it would be a very small niche market.

The RE-35 was never intended to be a real product. It was an April Fool's joke that has stuck around for years.

For that matter Silicon Film was nothing but vapor ware. They claimed to have a working prototype, but never showed any actual proof that there was.

Some scenes are best shot with short exposure time, some with long
Some scenes are best shot with wide angle, some with tele
Some scenes are best shot with high Mp count, some with few

I'm sure people will find the right tool for the job also in the future, and I'm sure the camera manufacturers will offer both high Mp cameras and high ISO cameras. If you don't like the high Mp model, choose something else.
