Each step roping us into ever tighter confines and dependencies.
And vulnerabilities.

Would we have it any other way?

I don't get it, if we look:
- Modern cars are much safer than old one. In the sixties if you had a car accident, you were much more likely to die.
- Mobiles phones connect people together in many areas for far cheaper price than traditionnal phone that need wires that are quite expensive. A single Antenna connected to satelite is enough for a village.
- Many advenced surgical operations relies on computers, software and robotics to do things that would be impossible otherwise. Some examination would also be impossible otherwise. Many more people would die sooner without this.
- Modern electric network are optimized by computers to reduce the electricity lost in the network and reduce the need for it, meaning it cost less and reduce our energy consumption and in many place CO2 emissions.
- Modern distribution combined with Internet allow many people to get access to competitive price and get the product they want delivered to their home, even if they live in the back country.
- People don't need to spend hours or years doing basic calculation but can delegate to computer. My father first job was to do computation related to planes efficiancy. He add a huge mechanical calculator that did only the most basic operation and a thing that can be computed now instantly required him hours, day or even months.

Software and computers are a universal tool, like mathematics. They help solve and improve most things we know in many area. The impact is as important as electricity and we are just at the begining of it.
