Ricoh have very probably restaured their historical lens relationships with both Tamron and Tokina.
Tamron contract manufactures lenses for everybody, including Sony (who own 10% of Tamron) and Nikon reportedly, for every type of camera. As long as their money is good, I see no barrier to them working closely with Ricoh for future lenses.

As with their relationships with other brands, some of the lenses Tamron make (eg for Sony) may not even need to appear as Tamron branded versions. So it's possible that they could even make a few Pentax specific lenses.

Furthermore like Pentax, Tamron also has a lens factory in Vietnam [Hanoi], making it even easier for the two manufacturers to work together, and even harder for casual observers to figure out who really makes Pentax branded lenses.

I agree. It would make sense for Tamron to just add the K-mount. It is not like they are redesigning the lenses.

I ended up hanging out with a Tamron Rep at the WPPI show in Vegas a couple of years ago. I asked him about this very issue. He has been with the company for a long time so he aught to know what their thinking is. His response was that Tamron is looking for serious volume before committing to manufacturing for any particular mount or company. And in their mind K-mount does not have the numbers. That is one of the reasons even Sigma dropped one or two of their K-mount offerings.

Let's hope with the new FF and continued Ricoh support they (Tamron and Sigma) start offering more choices for Pentax users.

I just wish any Pentax FF launch in 2015 could match what they managed to come up with in 1975 when they launched K-mount:

It is not my habit, but a reasonnable interpretation.
I don't have the link here, but he wrote something like "you get 90%" when question was asked for a new FA*200mm macro.
Seen in some DPR thread.

@rawr : Tamron is even reported to have optically designed the last Zeiss Batis Sonnar T* 85 mm f/1,8 lens (mistral75).

But my guess is more for Pentax to re-use Tamron and Tokina lens designs and add some features like WR or drop-in filter... So let's call it "rebadging with adaptations" and possible royalties shared for R&D, than for Tamron/Tokina to relaunch K-mounted series.

I don't know why people are involving Tamron and Tokina into this. It seems totally baseless.....

IF, i say IF Pentax rebrand the new 15-30, i will be superhappy! I tested it in Sweden (on a Nikon, but still), and its better then Nikons best lense..the 14-24 F/2.8.

Why?

The guy (Jun Hirakawa) who designed the:
- FA* 85/1.4
- FA* 80-200/2.8
- FA77 Limited
- FA43 Limited
- DA* 55/1.4 SDM
Now works for Tamron. Hoya forced him to "retire". You don't want this guy designing new lenses for K-mount?

It's seems to follow that the 15-30 on Pentax's lens road map will be a re-engineered/rebadged Tamron lens. I'm not aware of any other zoom lenses covering that exact range for a full frame camera.
