3 Rumors

Today I went to my local camera store to get a new gimbal head. The Tamron rep was there at the time and between him and the store owner I have these rumors.

#1. Ricoh is going to open a factory service center in the US in 2016.

#2. The new full frame Pentax will have the Sony 42 MP sensor from the a7R II.

#3. Tamron will be adding new Pentax K mount lenses because of the above.

Well then. That means pricey camera body.

But didn't kenspo already say it wasn't the Sony 42mp sensor that was going to be used?

I seriously doubt a Tamron rep knows anything about a Pentax FF apart from what he reads on this forum...

And also.. if true.. then what makes a user want a 645Z system over this?

Better S/N ratio and DOF (you know the usual stuff).

Luscious MF feel and luscious raw files that can be pushed and pulled more than us currently even possible from a FF 35mm equivalent sensor. Well that's why I have one and not a Nikon FF or a Sony

What it really be that much of a difference to warrant 2.5-3x cost? Remember this is the latest 42MP BSI sensor..

There is a lot more to the image and a camera than the resolution.

That said, #1 has me the most excited (if true). We could reallllllyyyyyy use company supplied service here instead of the contracted stuff we've got now.

Well.. I figured sheer resolution would be the desire of someone going MF (landscapes and portraiture)

Yeah, and why would improved Pentax lens service (#1) lead Tamron to do #3? Crappy OEM service is one of the things that push us towards Tamron and Sigma.

To me it is worth it. I was lucky to be able to afford it, but if you can you should try them both and decide for yourself. FWIW if the new FF is a step forward in AF speed as well as being FF and pentax Sony sensor goodness squeezed I may well look into it but for different photographic purposes.

I'd love to have more aftermarket options. If I can get that 150-600 from either Tamron or Sigma I will.

Even with the new FF 42MP BSI sensor? It is all hype now.. but I suspect it will be a challenger to the 645Z in some (important ways).

There is an article on DPR that compares the new Canon 5Ds to the 645Z and the differences in resolution seem minimal.

Having Pentax strike a deal with Tamron would be a clever move, since they will have so few lenses of their own to begin with.

Not making a top model as good as possible is self-defeating. If buyers go FF Pentax instead of 645Z, at least Pentax sells a body, which is better for Pentax than the same consumer buying a Sony.
