Canadians, buy your Sigma Glass soon

I just thought that this would interest the Canadians looking at buying Sigma lenses.

I was just told by a very reliable source (as in my normal camera store) that Gentec will be raising the price of their Sigma lenses sometime in July.
For the people that don't know this already Gentec is Canada's Sigma distributer.

So if you'd like to order something in you might want to do so before July arrives.

I do not know if Sigma USA, or any other distributes will be doing the same.

Not much Sigma based I'd really be interested in buying besides the 30mm 1.4. Just hope Tamron doesn't follow suit.

Is there also a reason why Sigma raises its' prices? Seems quite strange to me...

It seems that with the strenght of our dollar, they should lower the prices, oil price increases nonwithstanding.

Good thing I ordered my 17-70 already (and got a price match plus rebate, too )

Maybe it's cost of distribution relating to oil prices?

This was my main reason for picking up the Sigma 10-20mm a month earlier than planned. At least, that's how I justify it to myself .

Crap and I have their new 70-200 2.8 on order, which is not coming out until August I was told. Canadian pricing, on average, are already 30% higher on sigma's compared to the US. So much for a stronger dollar! Still will buy the lens though along with both TC's. About a 1500.00 dollar hit! JIM<BO

Exactly. And as a result, and after the length of time the dollar has now been at par, when Canadian businesses try raping me over the prices, I buy in the US. They had an excuse when the dollars first began to reach parity, but all the "old stock we paid for under the old exchange rates" is long off the shelves.

It would be a fair bet that if the US dollar plummetted next to the Canadian dollar for half a year and then rose again, they wouldn't be passing the difference to consumers as "old stock bought during the period of favourable exchange rates". Nah... "sorry, all the old stuff sold almost as fast as we got it".

Obviously, I don't have a whole lot of faith... but maybe I'm wrong.
