SR loses effectiveness with larger sensors too
This may be true when comparing two arbitrarily chosen cameras of different sensor formats. But reasons would be elsewhere. There is no technical a priori reason why SR efficiency should vary with sensor size. Everything should scale accordingly and produce a comprarable reduction of image blur.

This is true especially as the mass of the sensor assembly increases with at most the square of the image circle only, not its third power.

However, SR for a larger format is likely going to add more weight (in absolute terms) than for a smaller format. Probably the same increase in weight in relative terms.

..but scaling everything accordingly isn't unproblematic. One of the effects could be unacceptable power consumption....

The increase in mass can also mean it is slower to react to fast, even if small movements. I am not convinced, they would at least have to rework the SR system, and if they implement those improvements to the APS-C cameras the SR there should be even better.

A3+ is 158,907mm^2
D800E sensor size is 864mm^2
K-3 sensor size is 370mm^2

To print at A3+ the image from a D800E has to be enlarged 183 times.
To print at A3+ the image from a K-3 has to be enlarged 430 times.

A3+ = A3 = 124,740 mm^2
the "+" is for edges to cutting, not for printing
so
for FF enlarged is (D800E sensor is 861.6 mm^2) 148 times
for APS-C enlarged is (K-3 sensor is 366.6 mm^2 ) 340 times
======

I have printed B1 format, 70x100 cm, from my K-5 with fantastic resolution! (Fantastic epson 42 inch printer!)
and
with 300 dpi K-5 APS-c is just.... A3 format

To say honest it also depends of the distance of viewing.
The photo could be printed even with 150 DPI from K-3 and looks very good from some distance. Yes - 70*100 cm.
27,83 × 39,37 x 150 x 150 = 24 MP

A3+ is bigger then A3 and it is for printing. I had some A3+ on fine art paper and water color paper printed on my HP B9180 in a frame with passe partout on my exhibition and that looked real great. The print is 25 % langer in area then A3, but also the paper was more luxueuze in a large frame presented.

That canvas looks great, but canvas is less demanding on printing.

As some have already said, the MP "eternal" debate is just the logical evolution of the industry if it wants to keep up with development according to ambiant capitalism.
More resolution in the sensor, to oblige new lenses standards and models, to imply new data processing softwares, and purchasing every generation new and more powerful hardwares and bigger screens....
Unfortunately, nothing new under the sun, just more heat.

Many products don't see that many big evolutions and nobody really care. That's washing machines, pens, beds or furniture in general. This doesn't mean that there less money to make by selling beds than by selling cameras anyway... And I'am sure there is big capitalistics company in sectors like that

This is more that nobody care what the new bed or new washing machine can do (or almost nobody)... But marketings people manage to convince us there some wonderfull thing new to buy every few years for cameras... And well they do have more and more difficulties as more and more camera are just good enough.

What sell the most camera is that when you change your mobile phone... And even there I think in developped countries everybody that want it have a good enough smartphone while the new model don't bring that much more functionnalities.

At the core, this is not capitalism. This is just the capacity to create new needs.

It's about making better stuff than the competition (unless you are Canon and you can live of your name alone). Without this we would al be shooting film and have debates about which scanner is best to scan our prints for web use and have endless discussions about that.

That would yes be so exciting

@nicolas06 : yes and no : any industrial product has to evolve, including washmachines, so there is virtually no exception to fast turnover in novelties marketing ; and by "ambient capitalism" i just mean the standards that have to be met in terms of income expansion, ROCE, and so on : i.o. to meet shareholders and "corporate market" law or criteria - said differently : basically to stay afloat or progress against competition, and i agree with D1N0

Ah yes,..... speaking of product evolution, has anyone heard any more about the possible release of a "new APSC camera by early 2016"? On one of the previous pages it was stated or implied that maybe a new sensor might make the camera focus quicker or better. I was thinking about getting a K3ll next month but if something a bit better is just around the corner I'll wait.... ;-)
