More resolution in the sensor, to oblige new lenses standards and models, to imply new data processing softwares, and purchasing every generation new and more powerful hardwares and bigger screens....
Unfortunately, nothing new under the sun, just more heat.
Many products don't see that many big evolutions and nobody really care. That's washing machines, pens, beds or furniture in general. This doesn't mean that there less money to make by selling beds than by selling cameras anyway... And I'am sure there is big capitalistics company in sectors like that
This is more that nobody care what the new bed or new washing machine can do (or almost nobody)... But marketings people manage to convince us there some wonderfull thing new to buy every few years for cameras... And well they do have more and more difficulties as more and more camera are just good enough.
What sell the most camera is that when you change your mobile phone... And even there I think in developped countries everybody that want it have a good enough smartphone while the new model don't bring that much more functionnalities.
At the core, this is not capitalism. This is just the capacity to create new needs.
