I used my Sigma 18-300 for Pentax Mount yesterday for the first time. It seems to perform well at all focal lengths. I did not use SR and noticed that 320 shutter speed and F13 seemed to give me nice results in situations where I had a moving insect (ex. Yellow Jacket) on a flower, or just to alienate any of the natural tiny movement I might have made when I shot near still objects (ex. flowers, frogs). I used my K-5 which does not reveal as much detail as my K-5IIs, but in another shot of a plant which I have posted, the bristly sort of like hairs and other features were crisp at 300 mm. I just wanted to post the Black Eyed Susan as a simple example, the other plant reveals the detail the lens is capable of in a different way. Please note that if you get it, be careful of the focus which turns by itself externally on the barrel. The focus is quiet, and if you are steady and using a good shutter speed the lens seems to really take nice pictures. Please note the pictures were decreased in size to 20 percent in Paint to allow posting them easier (file not so large). I can see that the "View Picture EXIF" data is available above each picture I have posted on my PC but not on my tablet. I want to mention again that the 320 shutter speed seemed to assure the retaining of detail in the still or slow moving images in almost all cases. Minor movement of the camera during shooting sometimes is easy to do, but the 320 speed seemed to almost cure that totally. I have shot at lower speeds effectively, but I used that speed sometimes to make sure I was not causing a blur which might have otherwise been blamed on the lens incorrectly. UPDATE: I have done a partial crop of the Black Eyed Susan I originally posted. It is the third image below.

I still have my Pentax-branded DA 18-250 and haven't bothered upgrading it because I haven't seen enough difference in the 18-270 or even the Sigma 18-300 to make enough of a difference to me. The new Tamron 16-300 with WR would be worthy of the upgrade - at least to me. But, alas, no K-mount and no hints from Pentax about selling it under its brand.

Indeed. The DA 18-250 is the first lens to go in my travel bag. While it's not the best lens, it's the most versatile, at least for me. It would be great if Pentax would redo it or the 18-270 and make it a bit faster and sharper. Coupled with the 1.4x would make it a hard to beat travel kit.

I'd still like to get my hands on a cheap one, second hand. 18-250 or 18-270, even Samsung version I don't care.
Seems the old Tammy 18-200 is lot worse though.

the tammy 18-200 is garbage (I've used the nikon, canon and sony version all equally bad)
never by sigma secondhand (the focusing motor tends to be on the way out)
smc-da 18-135/3.5-5.6 al if dc wr secondhand could be picked up quite cheap (in my part of the world at least)

I'm a bit confused. Is the K mount version out yet, or not? I see one person saying they've actually used one, another said the release date was going to be Aug 21. Sigma's site says it's "backordered", and Amazon says you can "pre-order" it.

I was kinda psyched about this lens. I have a Tamron 28-300, but often especially when I'm out at an event I really need a wider angle. It'd be nice to just leave one lens on this puppy for these things. I'd probably be happy with the Tamron 16-300 ... but I can't really find it, either.

The tamron is not release on K-mount so you should not.

There was some people that managed to get the sigma 18-50 apparently but it is no longer available.

Yep. Give us a 16-300 with WR, even with screwdrive, and every other zoom lens in my collection would be on the marketplace the next day.

As Nicolas06 said, Tamron will not make this for the K-mount. However, you can get a sigma 18-300 if you want something wider than your Tamron 28-300. That I believe is the widest K-mount super zoom available.

Along with the Pentax DA 18-270, which is a Pentax-branded Tamron. That's why I don't understand why we're not seeing a Pentax-branded Tamron 16-300.

That may interrest people like me to get your old lenses for a great price, but if I'am Ricoh and i read that I'll be quite afraid of such statement. This mean you may never buy another lens (bad) and on top on that you'll steal sales from people that are actually willing to buy lenses (bad). The only possibility to me is to ensure the lens is expensive and not so great so that people still give me money and people still have justification for buying more specialized lenses.

The demand for Pentax K-mount is probably not viable enough to produce such a lens. But, I hope we will see an upgrade to the 18-270 within this range (16-300). And of course this time, it will be a WR.
