Unfortunately, this argument is overrated.
VF-magnifications with digital FF cameras aren't what they used to be at manual focus times.
E.g., the D810 has a 0.7x magnification.
while the K-3II has a 0.625x magnification (in FF terms, 0.95x/1.52).
The D810 VF is just 1.12x times larger.
Nothing compared to the VF of a Pentax MX which was 0.97x at 95% or 1.51x larger than the K-3. Compared to an MX, the viewfinders of a K-3 and D800 are almost the same.
Of course, a huge optical viewfinder could be something Pentax could use to set themselves apart from other FF offers ...
