Ricoh finally launching the whole Pentax portfolio in India

Pentax launches new line of imaging products in India | Digit.in

this could be a start of some fine increase in world markeshare, as far as I understand, Pentax was very popular in India, but for a long time it wasn't possible to buy it directly.

Interesting. However, the prices are very high. Clearly aiming at the very wealthy.

Good on them. A big, growing market.

It's interesting that Ricoh have entered the market directly (via a locally listed entity 'Ricoh India Ltd' ) rather than rely on a local distributor, and they sell their cameras (and do support) right alongside their other products.

I think it's rather logical. India being the second largest country by population and with solid growth, Ricoh should have been there a long time ago.

The prices are high, compared with those available in the USA and Australia, but the K-3 is selling for not much more than the D7100, which is a superseded model here. The Indian middle class have incomes comparable with Western counterparts, and the numbers are very high (in the tens of millions – I haven't looked recently, but twenty years ago there were 20 million Indians with incomes higher than the Australian average, and our entire population then wasn't much greater!). So, it's a good market for Ricoh to be in, like just about everywhere in Asia. We tend here to only think in terms of Western markets, while the rate of growth in developing countries often provides more opportunity for new sales than in the West.

they've been here for a while now, and are offering good prices if you approach them directly. Got the HD DA70 for the equivalent of 330USD, which is a steal.
