Yeah, last year when Pentax got a lot of awards, I bought a used K20D. This year I'll probably ditch the Pentax and buy a used EOS 40D or something.

Whether or not EISA or TIPA awards mean squat, its still alot of PR for those who get them, and Pentax needs help in the PR area!! here almost no one knows of them & few shops even carry them,if they do its the K50...

I also wonder why they feel it is necessary to insert the word "European" in front of every single category. All but 2 products they list are not European, so are they implying they speak for all of Europe in determining what is best?
Well they are the "European Imaging and Sound Association"

Many organizations attach their names to their awards (e.g. "Soandso Editor's Choice", "Soandso's Award for Best...") so people know who gave it out, and a bit of self promotion. Few organizations attempt to conflate their own authority with that of an entire continent, especially when they are simply a loose association of magazines with no direct input from actual consumers. This speaks to me of an organization desperately trying to inflate their own self importance. Just take a look at what they have in huge letters on their front page (note the big red underlines):
QuoteQuote:
We are EISA
We have been awarding
products for 33 years
and we proved to be
very good at it

Wow, if I knew that being good at giving out awards was such a huge deal and made one so important, I should start giving out the "Cannikin Awards". And I'll be sure to put the word "World" (with plenty of underlines for good measure) in front of everything so there is no doubt in people's minds that my opinion speaks for the entire world.

They are an organisation of photography magazines from Europe. Eisa awards used to be pretty useful when there was not the internet yet. 50 magazines are connected to them. By all means go ahead and start your own awards. I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun with them.

What camera/lens was out for the customers on 1st Oct last year?

Sometimes it's rather simple. K-S2 may appear next year.

Leica Q was released a few months ago. But it was awarded.
Together with Pentax 645Z, Leica Q is the best camera released in the last 12 months, bar none. Big boys should be ashamed, really, that two small players release such amazing and uncompromising photographer-centric imaging devices (not mere gizmos).

Pity Ricoh did not put anything into GRII to deserve any attention.

We must force EISA to adopt a new rule. Award Pentax every year!!!. Whatever Pentax is doing or not.

They could give Pentax an award for the most patient customers in the world. And another award for the most mysterious mock-up FF camera of the year.

Please let's not shed too many tears about this, ha ha. EISA is a sham award. The so-called EISA gets royalties and licensing fees when manufacturers use the logo in their advertising. That's why they usually try to spread the love around to as many manufacturers as possible by creating a ridiculous number of sub-categories. Maybe they found out that Pentax wasn't interested in buying an EISA award this year, so they didn't award one.

Maybe Pentax already blew all their marketing budget by running a single ad in some magazine earlier in the year. Or maybe they're still recovering from the large purchase of whiskey for their booth display a couple years ago.

Another theory is that Pentax is sitting out this year in order to make a big EISA purchase when their FF is released.
