Depends on what was wrong... a faster AF motor, requiring a bigger housing would be a complete redesign of the exterior, and retooling the equipment used to manufacture it. Redesigning lens elements would probably take even longer. Without knowing exactly what the issue was, it's hard to know whether or not they just tossed it and started over from scratch, or they had components they could work with. The only thing you can be sure of is they aren't going to hold it back to create suspense once they've got it.

If you look at the regard the Sigma, Tamron, Nikon, and Canon 70-200s have earned, this is a lens they have to get right. And as Pentax improves the AF system, this lens will have to be able to meet those standards, not just current ones. It's not good they didn't get it right the first time, but releasing a dud won't help.
I guess there is quality control issue in Vietnam manufacture factory so that they have to delay the release until the issue solved!

Nope, that's not the reason of delay.
Best regards

Dudes - New/improved AF algo's.

Sounds like we might be a couple weeks away from one of the best 70~200's ever - potentially another Pentax Milestone of the 200/4 Macro class.

Seems like at a minimum we'll get an announcement with on official planned date of release. Whether that ends up bleeding into early next year is hard to say, but I would doubt it, if there is an announcement/end of embargo on non-disclosure at the beginning of October. Certainly the camera will be released within four to five weeks of the beginning of October.

Recall the K-3 release. IIRC embargo ended late September, shipments started late October and I had mine December 15th.

The thing that could well happen is that due to success of pre-orders, production could be insufficient at the start.
Hence priorisation of shipments, that could be discriminant btw sales areas.
In this case, we all know Japan would be priority n°1 ; then probably Asia/Europe/Americas in an unknown and suspens order.

Ricoh was already surprised by demand for the D FA 150-450, stating in one interview that they sold about twice as many as expected. It is possible that they learnt a lesson there and are trying to produce a larger-than-originally-planned stock of FFs before release. The same might have played a role in postponing the D FA* 70-200's release.

I saw that mentioned elsewhere, from testing, which I assume was on a K-3, but maybe that was wishful thinking on my part. If not, though, we could all be in for an AF upgrade, not just with the forthcoming body/bodies.

Yes indeed, I hearby stake my entire reputation as a Pentaxian on this statement. If I am wrong I will never again be trusted for deep, insightful comments about products from Pentax, Ricoh, or any other Oriental company. I still retain a claim to all knowledge of German (never had one) and American (do we make anything here?) cameras and am happy to give purchasing advice when requested.

I'd say 'nice', not 'amazing'. Only 5-10% better than A7R or D810, max.
