I'm not seeing any real negativity in any of Adam's posts in this thread.

Where is the phrase quoted above about big boys not being worried?

The "big boys" cater to a different audience. I think Pentax has struck gold within the 645Z's market segment, though!

No surprise that so many of Pentax's recent FB activity relates to the 645Z. I think it's probably their biggest money-maker at the moment.
The above is the total contribution to this thread by Adam. Neither of which show they were edited since they were posted. Seems like people are putting words into Adam's mouth.

I think this site is in favour of pentax, just to varying degrees. There are the fundamentalists (which I am probably close to being one) through to the swingers ........ I wish I could be one of those too

Sometimes favour and bias has to be tamed when interpreting stuff. I suspect that was Adam's demeanour at the time.

The way I understood Adam's post is that we belong to a niche. I had my reasons for choosing Pentax after jumping from 4/3. I reviewed everything here in pentaxforums before going into Pentax. Whatever reasons each of us have for being with Pentax I'm sure we couldn't find it in Canon or Nikon.

After reading all the sledging of Pentax's f/2.8 lenses, I feel really silly for selling my Mamiya 645 with 80/1.8....

Hey Sandy that 645 lens is an 80mm but it is listed as f/1.9 ... and pretty sweet.

That is quite possible - I sold it a few years ago now so my recollection could well be wrong

A little film era perspective on fastest lenses in these systems:

Bronica GS-1 6x7 => 80mm f3.5 & 100mm f3.5

Bronica rf645 => 65mm f4 & 45mm f4 (very nice range finder - easy to handle)

Mamiya 645 => 80mm f/1.9 (fastest 645 lens ever I believe) ; 110mm f/2.8 ; 45mm f/2.8

Mamiya RZ 6x7 => 110mm f/2.8

So the Pentax 645 glass is slower than some of the film era glass, and film 645 was larger format than Pentax 645 sensor.

The fastest glass you can use today on the 645Z is the Hasselblad Planar T* 2/110 mm FE lens: http://www.hasselbladhistorical.eu/pdf/lds/FE110_2.pdf

That's not too bad as it seems:
Review: The Pentax 645Z is a Wedding Photographer's Medium Format Dream

It's roughly the equivalent of a 85mm/1,4 lens on a 36x24 crop sensor. And that's probably for most people the maximum you'll ever want or need in people photography (on Nikon anyway, the step to F1,2 on Canon is not a big one - the decline in sensor performance for the 36x24 crop format is, though).

More problematic is the absence of leaf shutter lenses in the Pentax 645 lineup.
Why the need for leaf shutter lenses? Why not just use a real good studio-flash like the Priolite HS series?
