No...unless Sony quits the camera business in favor of being a sensor supplier...

You have no way of knowing that. There are many other equally plausible reasons for the delay.

The press release says something like "For market release by the end of 2015". So what's the end of 2015? Dec 31, 2015? March is considered the beginning of spring for most temperate countries in the Northern Hemisphere. So they slipped by 2 or 3 months. BFD! People got their hopes up that mid-Fall in the Northern Hemisphere would be the earliest this camera would be available. Sure there were a few credible rumors to reinforce these hopes but in the end these turn out just to be rumors.
Spring (northern hemisphere) also goes through May so it could be five months delay.

I'm not dreaming. I don't care about 4K or even HD, but as the sensor tech evolves we will have the sensors and we are discussing the future not the past. Sony may or may not be able to make a MF 4K sensor. Sony didn't make MF sensors at all until last year.
Don't forget that:

- RED cameras use proprietary sensors
- RED's competitor, Arri, proposes the Alexa 65, a 6K camera with a 54.12 x 25.58mm, i.e. a 'medium format' sensor (diagonal = 60mm, bigger than that of the sensor in Pentax 645Z).

RED could therefore develop a video-oriented sensor for a future Pentax 645 camera (or 24x36 camera, for that matters).

Its not something they have confirmed, but something you can read between the lines.

What every camera-maker needs to survive is high power electronics - Expeed, Bionz, Digic, et, etc. Without them, you have nothing to offer, you just have a body and a dumb sensor. If Ricoh have found a way of sourcing the required expertise from an outfit like RED what's not to like? It doesn't mean RED-style sensors will suddenly end up in Pentax cameras even if some adapted electronics do. But Ricoh would be free of the Milbeaut merry-go-round.

My friend uses RED EPIC as photo camera as well.

RED Epic 645 has 9k Mysterium Monstro sensor 56 × 42 mm, 9334 × 7000, 65MP

I can't explain why, although i am a rather "good customer" of "Images Photos - La boutique Pentax" in Paris, having bought there the two last K-mount zooms since last year (16-85 and 150-450), but i recieved a phone call this morning from them.
They seemed aware of potential damage for Pentax sales following yesterday "delay teasing", and seemed keen to reinsure their customers.
They told me that the delay decision is recent - the official announcement was effectively due to be made next october 6th.
They added the K mount FF would be a really good and interesting product, worth waiting until it hits the shelves ; and that it would "not be a simple big sensor K-3II" in the sense that it would have more features.
Finally, they told me there would be more teasing to come re. this product ; and that we should probably have more news before end of 2015.

Nota : these people do sell exclusively Pentax brand photo products ; they are independent from Ricoh. But generally well informed, and often THE very first seller in France for brand new gear, or detender of pre-production stuff (that has been the case for the two last DFA zooms, and they had the DFA70-200/2.8 pre-prod until very recently in store).

FWIW, an FStoppers opinion.

I've complained to the author - not enough wrist-slitting.

Aside from the main message of your post, which is very interesting, the part I quoted is quite remarkable! If even a fraction the doom-mongering posted in PF were true, this could not be possible.

Actually, Images Photo is a seller network with tens of selling points in France, they do sell any brand and not exclusively Pentax Gear ; but in this "boutique Pentax" in Paris, where you find exclusively Pentax.
