LOL. We always considered those city slickers that couldn't wire a house, fix the plumbing and plow forty acres to be rather useless parts of humanity. If you cannot build it, create it or fix it what are you doing? Guess I must be a peasant at heart.

Been a long time I think that some "useless" people are preciously kept in the community like doctors or soldiers or politicians/leaders . Even people that only know how to tell good stories or make good musics ! We can discuss their utility, but that not new for sure.

Oh we have more specialists theses day, but that by no way a new trend.

In my job it is the same. I'am a software engineer and people think I'am the guy that maybe repair the computer. They don't get that no, I'am into flight reservations systems in fact and so part of my job (and many others) is to compute and return the best flights recommendations for a trip, ensure that when you actually book it, the seat is actually kept for you, that when you take a trip with 3 flights all airlines cooperate to bring you to the final destination even if one of the flight is late and so on. And no, I have no idea why they computer stopped working... Except maybe that they brought a device with very low quality components, that they didn't backup their data at all and that they tryed every executable files they could put their hand on while surfing the web

In the english language anything but Royalty is inferior. I've heard Native American elders describe themselves as "proud to be heathens", because heathen means "from the woods". North Americans look down on those who enter the trades, make sure that their kids never become so low, and then wonder why they can't find a good auto-mechanic. IN North America, anything other than the professions is low class.

I think you're overgeneralising a little, though you do have a point about the attitudes held by some of the more affluent big city dwellers.

Oddly enough, in the Australian context, the people I've seen harbour most contempt for "the man on the land" have tended to be those who identify politically with the Australian Labour Party or Australian Greens. From my understanding of the situation in Canada, it would be as if the NDP suddenly decided to get its hate on for the working class and farmers and push that as a political agenda.

Naw, I never fell into that.... I was a High School teacher, glorified baby sitting, and a cabinet maker, I could make you custom what you could buy off the shelf factory made for 1/3 the price. The only time I made any money at all was when no factory anywhere on earth madee what was needed. So basically, our trade existed soley to support the conceits of rich people who could afford us, and wanted Louis the 15th replica chairs.

And bottom line, that is what counts. If someone is willing to pay you to do it then it is by definition "useful". And if you enjoy doing it that is even better.

I am always amazed when I sell a picture. The thrill that something I made was valued by someone enough to plunk down real money is more satisfying than the receipt of the cash.

But every time I see my dad he asks if I sold a picture today. When I say yes he just shakes his head and mutters something about what on earth do folks do with all those pictures.

Pennsylvania, the state where I live, is an outlier in that it's one of the few places where you'll still occasionally see socially conservative Democrats run and win statewide offices, which owes to a long tradition of catering to the union-permeated heavy industrial and low-margin agricultural sectors that until recent decades dominated the economy here. It's steadily decreasing, though, as industry has died, the family farm has become much rarer, and the older generation of socially conservative Democrats has died off or moved to Florida.

Indiana has had a number of Democrats who were successful in state-wide elections, and virtually every one of them was/is socially conservative. Having lived in both Massachusetts and Indiana in recent years, I am quite convinced that the typical Indiana Democrat is more socially conservative that is the typical Massachusetts Republican.

There is a culture difference between city and country, and while I was born and raised in a rural town, most Australians live on the coast in capital cities.

The stereotyped 'man on the land' is socially conservative but economically left wing (agrarian socialist, even if they won't admit it).

The political party that in theory best represents their views is the Nationals, but their dominant coalition partners set a very city-based economic agenda anyway.

The new marketing approach from Ricoh for the full frame camera is: market testing. They announce a camera to see how the market reacts (to measure how excitement is on Pentaxforum ). Once they have a market feedback, they have to change the product design to match the market, so they postpone the release to have all features implemented.

Spoke to Pentax today. It is the callback of all the K-3 II's that is the reason for the delay. The production line can't handle both the callback and the production of the FF. The FF is ready and specs are finished. Will start production as soon as the K-3 II issue is fixed.

If they have to fix the problem in the assembly plant they probably have to replace the circuit board.
