Dudes. It's shadowed. If that's even a photograph and not a pure manipulation.

Actually, we're all being manipulated.

To drop screw drive at this point would be a product disaster. Not impossible, but the FF demand would evaporate overnight - without doubt. I do not think the Pentax Ricoh mob would even contemplate such step at this stage.

Marketing suicide

Why would Pentax bother keeping the k mount if they got rid of the screwdrive?

It is more likely to vanish from an entry level camera than from a flagship like this will be.

Since they've talked of crop mode, it would seem reasonable that they're not going to half support the DA lenses without screw drive.
Lol a bit more than three. Every DA* other than the 55(16-50,50-135,60-250, 200, 300), all DC lenses (20-40, 18-135, 16-85, 18-50). The 18-270 and 17-70...kaf3 lenses... But it will have screw drive.

Personally I think they should move away from screwdrive in all future DFA lenses, but not having an AF motor would certainly be a deal breaker for most users here.

I mean even Nikon has retained screwdrive support even though almost all AF-D lenses are no longer current...

Maybe they are actually marketing geniuses. They have certainly managed to captivate all of our attention. They will slowly dribble out bits and pieces for us to over analyze over the next several months...screw drive or no screw drive...cold shoe or hot shoe...flip panel screen or not...evf or ovf...

We will picture the worst. We will agonize over how it will surely be the end of Pentax. And then they will release the specs and it will be better than we imagined - so even if it doesn't have everything we ever wanted it will still be better than the worst case scenario. And we will be happy until we start the process over again 6 months after the new camera release.

I don't think they should do away from screw drive...but why even go through the hassle of showing the mount without one? I mean they could get the mount out of any old K-5 parts bin. Or it could be a CAD model, but then again someone would purposely have to delete the hole. Why go through the 5 second exercise of deleting it from the model?

there is no lens on the camera ... may be it's because Ricoh/Pentax decide to give up on lenses too ^^

Go to K-mount page and look at the Kaf mount drawing. Open two Tabs and page them.

The screwdrive is completely shadowed. It's just shadowed.

Geeze, it's just a mock-up.

Looky Looky! GASP! There is no focus screen! No Mirror! It must have an EVF! OMG! It's MIRRORLESS!

Wait! Wait! There's no sensor either....

LOL!

I think they could probably do a lot to make it quieter. But I really like it because it makes all the lenses so much lighter. I guess the 20-40 shows us that is possible to be compact with an internal motor, but I worry we're going to end like Canon where seemingly every lens has a 77+ mm filter and weighs about 2 lbs. (Ok, exaggeration, their primes aren't that big. But they're not 49mm threads either. It's really something when the 58mm of the FA31 is your fatman.)

if it has a 36 megapixel sony sensor there are no K lenses made past or present that can maximize what the camera is capable of. read in other forums about the Nikon D800 and lack of really complementary lenses.

or our own 645D and Z . The old glass is just okay , until it is stopped down several stops. But the modern DFA glass is amazing.

this new FF camera will need new lenses period, otherwise just shoot the ol' 17x22mm format.

Now I am really worried...

Could it be possible that this is actually a film camera and not digital at all?

Who knows? You might be right! It's a mirrorless! It's like the Sony a7 with 3x the focus speed of the best FF camera! Well, a lot of us here hopes so.
