If they forget about APS-C lenses and their customers, I'm gonna be steaming mad. How about that DA12-28 HD? Or even a DC motor in an updated DA55-300? How about a decent 70-200 now that Tamron and Sigma pulled out? New fictive lenses for a fictive FF camera? Bah, humbug.

Yep, as photorumors say, it was posted on multiple forums (here and dpreview) and the source of it was Kenspo, who is an official Pentax ambasador and our reliable source and good friend here. He first posted it on Facebook Pentaxians group wall and then confirmed here.

There is a DA wide on the lens roadmap... but since the DA lens range is quite complete and the D FA isn't, it's obvious that working on the latter has a higher priority.
The good thing is that every D FA lens will work very well on APS-C, too (except for some 'weird' FLs).

Which is funny, a true leak treated with less confidence than completely made up BS
Just look at 'our' April 1st joke and compare.

P.S. Should we start a counter?

I'd have thought it would be more the other way around!

Unless you've run out of DA lenses to buy and focal lengths to cover, it seems to me you have little to complain about. Talk less, buy more.

Not until they've recouped the R&D and production costs from the current HD model.

Already coming in D-FA* form, but if they'd released it after being told it wasn't good enough yet then the likes of you would be screaming "PENTAX IS DOOOOOOMED!" louder than you already are!

At ten years old this one probably is due for an update, but the full-frame lineup needs to take priority for now. You're more likely to see an HD version of the 12-24, maybe with DC if they can fit it easily inside the current casing.

Hmm... nope. D FA lenses are guaranteed to work on APS-C; DA lenses, OTOH, are not guaranteed to cover FF (even if some will).
What I'm saying is that, except in some cases price and/or weight/size, there is no drawback if Ricoh Imaging is offering a D FA lens instead of a DA.

Ricoh likes this

I think we're at cross purposes. You said every DFA would work on crop except for some weird FL's, and my thought was "Which ones? Surely any FF lens should work on a crop camera; it'll be the ultra-wide-angle crop lenses that fail on full-frame." True, some full-frame fisheyes or very wide rectilinears might have their appearances changed because the edges are lost on APS-C, but that's about all, isn't it?

By 'weird FL' I mean focal ranges which are not very practical on APS-C - for example, a 24-70 or a 28-105; they're not quite wide enough for a standard zoom. That's all.
But many D FA lenses will work very well, image quality and practicality wise, on APS-C.

Saying this well-loved lens wasn't "practical" on FF?
