1900$ and F2.8 doesn't sound like your average kit lens imo.
But it's going to be attached to a $3000 camera...

By next spring it will have come down in price, and bundled with a FF it will be even less.

Remember that the man who led the team that designed the Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD is Jun Hiragawa, a brilliant optical engineer who spent his whole career with Pentax until Hoya made him redundant.

He is the father, inter alia, of such well-known and appreciated Pentax lenses as FA★ 24 mm f/2, FA 35 mm f/2, FA 43 mm f/1.9 Limited, DA★ 55 mm f/1.4 SDM, FA 77 mm f/1.8 Limited, FA★ 80-200 mm f/2.8 and FA★ 85 mm f/1.4.

Did you notice that kenspo is pretty silent since the picture and specifications of the new 24-70mm f/2.8 were leaked?

I canít blame him though since I would be more than mildly annoyed if I were him: the 24x36 camera has been delayed without him being told and the 24-70mm f/2.8, the workhorse lens of many professional photographers, is a mere Tamron without him apparently being made aware of it...
He's been saying all week that Pentax would be getting new Tamron lenses...

All hybrid.

And the 21 in particular has had a few reports of delamination of the hybrid element.

I don't think anyone is saying the Tamron lens is bad, but the question is whether the coatings and removal of VC are really worth the extra $600. I remember even back in the day some people saying they would prefer to get the actual Tamron in K-mount instead of Tamron optics in a more expensive Pentax barrel
The Tamron already has some WR, right? And the coatings don't seem to be bad (though, maybe Pentax SMC or HD are better still)

But okay, I guess WR is nice
I bet the HD coatings will make quite a big difference.

The same arguments were being made when the DA 18-250 was released...

If the Ricoh offers not STAR zoom with simple WR and Tamron micro-motor for kit lens for FF, does it mean that FF camera could be budget model?
With price ~ 1500 USD.

I was also wondering what the star lens will be, but then I realised there is nothing on the road map. So maybe this is just it (for the foreseeable future)?
IMO, this is a placeholder lens. At some point I expect to see a DFA* 24-70 f2.8 with aerobright II coatings. But Pentax doesn't have the resources to make that lens now. Maybe in three, four, five years they can manage it.

Keep in mind that the Tamron 24-70 is a very good lens. The Canon and Nikon 24-70s are reputed to be better, but the differences, particularly in terms of sharpness, are too slight to be significant. The main difference, in terms of practical output, is a richer tonal signature in the Canon and Nikon OEM standards, but the Pentax HD coatings could very well be a difference maker here.

The Tamron 15-30 is reputed to be even better. Some claim it's as good as the Nikkor 14-24. I don't happen to believe that's true (the Nikkor has richer color rendition), but again, adding Pentax's HD coatings could take this lens to the next level and allow it to hold it's own with the highly regarded Nikkor.

Just to be clear, Tamron's USD is as good as Canon USM and Nikon's high-end SWD. So, basically, better than any of Pentax's focusing motors. This is actually a pretty positive aspect of the lens. The rest, though, is right on the money, and certainly doesn't bode well for the whole FF endeavor.

I am as cynical as they come, but in my opinion, it is WAY to early to make that statement. They have already released the 150-450mm, which is not a rebadge and is competitve to Canikon's offerings. They are currently working on a 70-200mm which should also be competitive and which is also (probably) not a rebadge.
There has not been any talk of what primes are coming, but I am sure we will see a couple announced by the time Spring rolls around. We don't know what form those will take.
So long story short, I think the next year will be very telling and we will know if Pentax Full Frame is really a showcase for Tamron glass, or if Pentax still has some tricks for full frame up their sleeve. Now it is just too premature to tell.

As many have stated above, the current leaked retail price is 160,000 Yen, which comes to about $1335, which is actually awfully close to what B+H is listing as the retail for the Tamron for right now.

If we see similar rebates as to what we are seeing with the Tamron, the street price will likely be closer to $1100. Also, as others have stated, it's significantly cheaper than the Canon and Nikon equivalent zooms.

Me, I've got the FA* 28-70mm 2.8 sitting on my desk as I write this, so unless I really want the weather sealing or the new D-FA is a step up in image quality, I'm not too concerned either way.

The lens roadmap showed this as being the large diameter standard zoom, and the more likely lens from the roadmap to be used as the FF kit lens will be the 28-105mm standard zoom.
