The seriousness of the lens to be introduced 'soon' tells about how much they are willing to please and quick fix the screw up they did.
So if they wish to launch fast normal zoom, 6 months ahead, it means Ricoh knows they had screwed up badly.

Fix? Maybe this was their plan all along?

Both of the new big DFA zooms were ED DC AW.
I hope 'SDM' was a typo for the 24-70.

SDM probably doesn't mean the same thing for all lenses. It certainly isn't the same motor in the DA *55, 16-50 and 50-135. The question isn't really what they call it, but how well it works.

WR, not AW, is also a little bit concern. But we'll see.

The new 645 28-45 is SDM, at least according to HD Pentax-DA 645 28-45mm F4.5 ED AW SR Reviews - 645 Zoom Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

So SDM may actually be right for this lens as well.
Hopefully it is a reworked supersonic motor, not like the old SDM,
giving the kind of AF speed that the FF market will demand.

But now we're waiting for the redesigned 70-200,
so it may emerge with a new version of SDM as well,
given that it's a * lens.

Given the history of SDM I'll be surprised if this lens is actually SDM. The 24-70mm needs to be really fast to compete with Canon and Nikon, and SDM has never been really fast. I hope this is a DC lens. I can't believe marketing would let them put SDM on it.

Not buying this. The 70-200 is DC and AW. No way the 24-70 will be any different. Looks like old info rehashed. Or bad assumptions.

I'm pretty sure this is the correct name for the lens, because I think the information that digicame-info gets is what goes out to retailers to list items on their websites.

It certainly is interesting that they use SDM for the motor. I guess it refers to a specific kind of motor.

I think it makes sense to use WR for all lenses. The distinction between WR and AW has always been confusing.

Anyway, exciting news!
