Anyone else confused that it's not a star lens?

There is no star lens with WR in the current lineup. It could be the first star lens with WR. But who knows?

Exactly. Even if this lens features improved technology, 'SDM' is an almost toxic abbreviation to many existing Pentax users. But then again, new Pentax users may not understand the stigma. Time will tell.

If this lens is:

- a D FA and not a D FA★
- DC and not SDM and
- WR and not AW

it's because...

...it's a rebadged Tamron/Tokina!

Pentax 16-50 is both star and aw. Still there is Tokina version of it.

Indeed but those are two different lenses based on the same optical formula, not a mere rebadge under another brand's name.

WG-40 W(white or blue)

Those products are coming soon.

???????????HD PENTAX-D FA 24-70mm F2.8ED SDM WR????????? - ????info

Just like the 70-200
Just like the FF camera
...

A FF camera requires a 2.8/24-70 and a 2.8/70-200 or similar at start. Next will be a 1.4/85 (in the old days this used to be a 1.4/50). So what is the news here? Where is the lens is the question. Lens will be bigger and heavier than competition, but at similar quality level. Price will drop a couple months after introduction. Both zoom are in the road map.
This lens is not really missed before the FF Pentax is available - the 16-50 will sell badly from now on, in used condition it will be even worse.

Tamron's 24-70mm has a ultrasonic motor, like Pentax's SDM, with a moisture protection which is called Kan'i-Bouteki in Japanese like Pentax's WR. In addition to that, Jun Hirakawa, Pentax's legendary lens maker, is a lead developer of Tamron's 24-70mm.

Is a bell ringing?

All the same, they would be crazy to call it SDM (might get away with SDM II or such). Personally I would avoid buying it unless I was absolutely sure it was a different SDM.

May I infer from your statement, combined with the one you made yesterday:

that HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm f/2.8ED SDM WR is indeed a rebadged Tamron lens?
