I have no issues with a rebadge, 3rd party are just as good as manufactures now except maybe the highest of high ends. if someone rebadged a sigma art 35mm and 50mm to pentax k mount, some people would be rejoicing.

Satisfied now? At an announced MSRP of $1300, it is even cheaper than 160,000 Yen.
Actually, the price of gears is increasing in Japan across the board due to currency depreciation. Don't care about Japanese domestic price so much. Pentax has just raised its domestic sales price recently. I haven't checked in detail, but I guess the price doesn't budge in dollar terms.

1300 is a very good price, barely higher than the tamron equiv.
It's the same as the Tamron equivalent - if we ignore the rebates.

I'm not happy about the rebadging thing, but I wonder if that wasn't the only realistic solution to have a decent lens for 3rd-party level price - perhaps they think we're not exactly ready to pay $2400 for a D FA* 24-70.
With that thought in mind, I will allow Pentax to rebadge another lens

When I read through these threads, there is a bunch of this kind of talk:
"I want interchangeable focusing screens so I can use my M28mm"
"I have my FA* 28-70mm ready to go"
"If I can't use my screw driven limiteds, it is a non-starter"
"Will the optical quality of my 40 year old lens hold up well with the new sensor?"
This leads me to believe that yes, most folks are not ready to pay $2000+ for a single lens
Remember the whole MAP price increase that freaked folks out...the most expensive lens was I believe the DA*300mm which was $1200USD (if memory serves).
Yea, these lenses are double that price

also if you said that a FF camera with a 24-70 f2.8 kit was going to be around 3.5k, i think many more people will think of pentax as a choice when shopping for a FF upgrade. If pentax releases FF k mount and its too high priced, then the only people who will buy the camera is someone with a large FA collection.

Let's hope what DPReview said here is close to final pricing. That would be a big plus for this standard zoom lens.

I wonder why the Pentax version is lighter though. I always thought the Pentax will be heavier because of the SDM and metal barrel. But then again these might not be the final specs

The $1,299.95 price is official. It's €1,299 in France, including 20% VAT.

812g with hood is also an official figure. It's only 13g less than the Tamron version, i.e. negligible. The autofocus motor is the same in the two lenses. The barrel is not made of metal.

my guess the weight change is from the removal of the VC electronics.

Then most likely the same material from the barrel of the 150-450 but not the 70-200? (Or the the latter is the same, none are metal). Always thought they'd be like the Nikkor ones (really heavy and metal like the Tokina 80-200)

My only qualm with rebranding is that buyers get a 1 year warranty through Pentax, whereas the same Tamron branded lens is covered for 6 years. That's unfortunate considering Tamron's poor record on quality control.

Liking how it looks on a K-3II, but somehow I think Pentax forgot to add their touch on the hood.. as per the usual Pentax style to include a
"window" on the lens hood for adjusting filters without taking the hood off:
