Pentax could do just make star version but normal version. I really don't understand this.
Why do you want it to be a Pentax design? Do you think it would be superior to this reworked Tamron at the same cost? They are trying to get this lens into the most hands as possible. Giving it a 2k+ price would not allow for this.

I'm sooo happy this isn't *that* expensive yet seems to be a decent performer. That means it is accessible to me.. one day.

Tamron's 24-70mm is now priced at $770 at the lowest in the current exchange rate in Japan. I'm not sure what the domestic price is going to be, but the Japanese users wouldn't be happy even at $1300.

The Tamron is $1100 USD over here, and that's after it's been out a while. I am betting that the DFA 24-70 will be $1100 on sale within 6 months, $1100 normal in 12, and $975 on sale in 12 months.

That is very good news.
There is now one more FF lens from Pentax --- so be it if it is not a "real" Pentax lens (pun intended for those who complain) --- to be had when the (FF) camera materializes.

Still, it amazes me to see complainers already, even some who will likely NOT get a FF camera.

Was it designed by any fired Pentax designers we might know?

What is this crazy thing you speak of. Pentax obviously chose to rebadge this lens because it was a terrible performer and Pentax sucks. It's not like this lens was worked on by Jun Hirakawa who is employed at Tamron.

The sad thing is, the only Tamron Lenses that seem to be coming our way are ones that are rebadged by Pentax. The Pentax name no doubt guarantees a certain number of sales, that maybe Tamron can't achieve on it's own. Which isn't surprising given the low regard much of the forum seems to hold these lenses. If you want to get shot down in flames, just suggest some Tamron lens might be decent.

Always complainers.. even about the FF.. I'll only buy if OVF.. I'll only buy if EVF/mirroless.. I'll only buy if 42MP.. I'll only buy if 24MP.. I'll only buy if pop up flash or high flash sync... etc.

No matter what Pentax puts out, it will be a great FF!

I'm a user of the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 lol, it is one of the best lenses I have ever owned and seen in use. So screw those people

Also had a Tamron 90 F2.8 macro and it was gorgeous.

I have a great Tamron 70-200 also and love it. I've also got an old Tamron 28-105 that's a really fine lens, oh yea, that comes with a Pentax badge too.

That is with a rebate. It is 1300 otherwise.

Tamron and Sigma have a tendency to have semi-permanent rebates. Good for consumers, confusing for everyone else.

Explained? I don't see any explanation. They could just name is star lens. They made too complicated situation now.
I will give it one try only. Adding a star means something about quality and WR. It would cost more and perhaps take longer. There may be other reasons but they are not interesting or important. This is the lens they will sell for now.
