Good news, that's the missing launch-puzzle piece

Seems an odd choice; surely the 24-70 is the more versatile lens (unless you are opting for body plus 28-105 to save costs). Or am I misunderstanding things here?

He means it will be available at the same time as the K-1, not that it will be a kit. The 24-70, 70-200 and 150-450 are, of course, already available. the 15-30 and the 28-110 are the only announced new lenses still to be issued.

Okay, got it. I think it's just that IIRC the FA-J 18-35 was a kit lens on early DSLRs and possibly late film bodies as well, hence the thought that such a thing was not beyond reason to be offered as such.

There has been some speculation about whether there would be a kit lens offered with the K-1 but, I do not believe, there has been any confirmation. Some have suggested that the 28-105 would make a nice kit lens but no seller has offered it.

Regardless of whether it's formally offered as a kit lens, I suspect there will be quite a few sellers who will be "strongly suggesting" it as the first affordable option for those not determined to get themselves a two point eight.

But the 18-35 makes some sense on early DSLR's - they were APSC and thus this give the classic 28-50 zoom perspective. Not the most massive zoom range but not unheard of either. 15-30 on Full Frame would be like a 10-20 kit for APSC... freaky wild.

Per B&H there are no official kits for the k-1. At least in the USA

Either Ricoh Japan or Ricoh Imaging NA would need to order/print packaging and arrange a factory assembly run of 'kits' for there to be a package. That's a marketing decision that might well come later, after the initial Dealer orders for K-1 have been fulfilled. IIRC the Q01 lens was very hard to find initially because the bulk of the production run was packaged as Q/01 kits for Japan market. USA market was limited for quite some time to Q/02 kits.

Somebody made a marketing decision . . . . .

I hope by August (when I will have funds available) K-1 is in ready supply (not on wait / hold / b/o) for US buyers - but I'm not holding my breath. I plan to get the 24~70 with my K-1, but I could also just use my FA24~90 as a stop-gap if necessary.

Yes. Not sure I agree with it but who knows maybe they know what they are doing.

One thing I find interesting is that there have been no B&H or Adorama specials on the 24-70. Everybody is the same price and not budging. I also read here yesterday that the 24-70 is out of stock in Australia. What those facts mean, I have no idea.

As for Belgium and probably most European countries ('cos in Belgium, it really is Pentax Europe, France) there's currently NO kit and none scheduled.

Well, it's the time of Full Framers to shine this year. Enjoy your k-1 and all the new DFA lenses that will be coming out this year. I hope we APS-C lovers will have our turn of new lenses next year. I'm really looking forward to improvements in the APS-C lenses next year.

it will be full frame that sounds the bell for years to come, excepting the 12-28 wide zoom that's still in the roadmap. Maybe some hd versions of DA lenses.
