Kit lens , I am almost certain will become available for Thanksgiving /Chritmas time.
If you mean the DFA 28-105 that is slated for delivery late April. B&H, Adorama and Amazon all list it about April 25th. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant?

I am talking Kit lens (DSLR+lens together) in the same package

Kit
Got it, I did misunderstand. Maybe you are right, but I'm not sure they have ever done that before. Usually the 'kits' have been available right up front. But as you say, maybe they figure there is enough demand from people sitting on a lens collection that 'kits' are not needed until the initial surge passes.

I have plenty of FF glass, but I do not have a good modern mid-range zoom. So either the 28-105 or the 24-70 will eventually be purchased. Had one been available in kit form at a good discount I would have bought it with the camera.

New patent for a 200mm f/2.8. Patent application filed on September 1st, 2014, patent granted on April 11th, 2016.

Ricoh 200mm F2.8?????????????So-net???

10 elements in 6 or 7 groups for this new patent:

instead of 9 elements in 8 groups for smc Pentax-DA★ 200mm f/2.8 ED [IF] SDM:

Could it be the large aperture medium telephoto from the roadmap?

Strange, the DA* 200 2.8 is fine and FF compatible, right?

Maybe they want a faster focussing lens. Or better optics or both. I've never been very much impressed by the DA* 200mm compared to the 300mm F4

Perhaps being "fine" is not enough.
I don't have that lens, but I see areas of improvements:
- optics: less CA (which appears to be a bit high), perhaps higher sharpness
- build: use the new DC motors, faster focusing. This itself might be enough to require extensive barrel changes, and if that's the case they might as well make a new lens altogether
- official FF support, from a D FA label to electronics containing correction information for the entire FF frame

Well DA* 200 and 300 are basically film lenses base on FA* 200 and 300 so they have limited optical quality compare to canon and nikon. Well they are way cheaper than Canon and nikon and still have great optical quality.

new DFA* 200/2.8 could be better for new 50+ MP FF sensors and as Kunzite said - less CA and better resolution

Yes, it could. Focal lengths ranging from 105mm to 200mm are considered as medium telephoto primes and f/2.8 is definitely a large aperture for a 200mm lens (f/2 would be considered as ultra large).

I would have rather considered a 135mm f/2 - f/2.5 as embodying the 'Large Aperture Medium Telephoto Single Focus Lens' from the roadmap though.

DA200 is rather old, FA200 is basically identival and shows its dose of CA. There was no F200 afaict.

The DA300/4 though is a new design as previous F ans FA were /4.5 designs.

No surprise the 300 is better.

Indeed DA★/FA★ 200mm f/2.8's optical formula dates back to 1993, almost a quarter of a century ago. A few improvements in lens design have been achieved since then .

And also one would assume the cost of more exotic glass elements have come down - allowing (theoretically at least) for more interesting designs based on const considerations alone?

Would be nice if they could reduce the minimum focus distance a little. Would be great if it could double time as a 1:2 macro as well! Although obviously there will be optimisation concerns.

They did when they came with the 300/4 (from the 300/4.5) I believe.
