Most of the time no, but sometimes yes.
If it is 42 I hope there will be an option where the camera down samples the raw data and creates a smaller "raw"-file. Then we would have it all!!

Umm ... If you were in bed when she said that, I suspect she'd be a tiny bit disapointed if you go and buy a camera ...

Well the topic was the camera - if she would say this in bed even the FF has to wait

I really don´t care if we see 36MP, or 42MP but if I can choose, I´d take 42! Not that I need them (at least I think I wont), but we would know the question to THE ANSWER

it is logical that the first flagship to be 42mp or higher to compet with canon 50mp cameras and sony!!
Well on long telephoto shots that need significant cropping, a 36MP K-1 in crop mode would match K-5, 42MP in crop mode would beat K-5, but 54MP would be needed to match K-3 (I can't see that happening!).

Any other improvements that K-1 brings to the table would of course alter the balance, even on that type of shot.

I wouldn't bet on that if I were you. Look at the output of K-3 II's Pixel Shift Resolution mode.

I've generally found through bad experience that that statement does not mean at all what you think it means.

What is the ultimate question to life the universe and everything of which the answer is 42?

How many megapixels will the first digital Pentax FF have?

You are in for nice a surprise. Looks like the FF has a different math. This exact feature has been discussed on the PF before. I am not sure but there may be two versions of SR. One being the K3II style. The other one actually giving more MP via use of 645 lenses. I am not sure of the exact specifications as I did not get enough time to dig into it. I think we are gonna get more than the base MP via SR which is exclusive to Pentax at this point. I know people are gonna correct me by saying that Olympus has the feature too. But again, the Pentax implementation is unique a different.

Look at this comparison. The K3 II is almost as sharp as de A7RII and probably as sharp as the D810. The 5Dsr is a little bit sharper. Also no colour artefacts in the small print.

Studio shot comparison: Digital Photography Review

I also think that for most purposes this sharpness isn't needed at all.

PS improves noise in addition to the color and resolution. The only drawback is tripod mounting the camera to get the additional benefits.

Are you, by any chance, making a reference to this piece of... art?

If so...

You will have to tripod mount any camera to get maximum sharpness out of the sensor. Of course in the case of pixelshift the subject also has to be static (although you can fix a lot in post).

Send them to me and I'll make a short summary, making sure I cover the essential

Yes that is the one I was talking about. After all the jokes about it being fake and amateurish, it may be all true after all!!

I can't remember who posted the graphic. By now, they should know the exact specifications.
