It is miles ahead of the 5DMarkIII and head and shoulders above D810. Lots of features that D810 can't touch and image quality to match or even surpass D810.

Perhaps we should (temporarily) replace Pentax Is Doomed (tm) with I Want To Believe (tm).

Admit it, though - if there were a camera show and Pentax were there and they brought the MZ-D prototype along and let people play with it, wouldn't YOU put YOUR SD card in it and your favourite lens on it and take a few shots?
Nice thought! Was the MZ-D designed for SD cards? The Contax N Digital used CF.

Someone just told me, possibly jokingly, that the interface was a 1.44MB diskette. Whether or not this is the case, I hope at least that people share my sentiment.

At the time of the MZ-D, almost all cameras (Pentax included, like my Optio 330GS which I had in 2001) used CompactFlash cards. The MZ-D probably did too.

LOL, the 1.44 floppy would not fit

It was CF cards at the time, just as the istD.

The Canon and Nikon 1's must be designed for 5.25" disks then!

In that case my *ist-DL represented a step up in a way. I know Nikon seems to have clung to the CF card - I think some of their cameras have an SD and a CF slot - which makes me wonder what makes people choose one over the other (where both are an option).

A few weeks ago, I would have been happy if the FF matched my D810 in all important respects, because then I could concentrate on running just one system (two if you count my m4/3 stuff.. oh wait, three if you count the Q7 and its lenses). Now, after following this thread, I too am afraid I'm going to be disappointed if it's only as good as the D810, which is a great camera, by the way!

The Nikon D810 has one CF slot and one SD. I use one for RAW and one for JPEGs. At the moment I'm using the SD card as the RAW repositary because it's faster than the CF card I have, and has a bigger capacity.

I hope that those who talk about a camera that beats the D810 in many ways and has at least same picture quality know that they raise Pentaxian expectations very high and it is quite possible that we might be dissapointed by the new FF if it is just a good all around camera. D810 is possiby the best all around FF since its release. Pentax seems to keep a low profile and doesn't make a promotion of her FF that excites and promises many things. They seem very careful while others (who are supposed to know a bit more) jump around from joy and excitement... I hope we all will share the same joy, satisfaction and that feeling of fullfilment when the FF is revealed! I really hope that but I remain down to earth although I'm optimistic by nature...
