Aside from shooting landscapes and cities on my travels, the main thrust of any professional photography work I do is portraits. I travel a lot with the day-job so compactness and light weight are important to me (airline pilot) so I didn't actually think that the FF would be an essential purchase for me. I'm rethinking that now though having thought about the image field of view in my studio portrait work.
The biggest issue I face when working in the studio is that my studio is small (12ftx10ft) and so I struggle to shoot full length portraits for example (only really an issue when shooting models but that's what I enjoy most anyway). The brilliant thing about the full frame is that I'm going to struggle less in my small studio to frame the pictures I want. I hadn't actually considered the framing difference between full frame and crop too much until I saw this:
Field of View in Full frame vs. Crop Sensor Cameras [Includes photo comparison] but I'm actually very surprised the difference is so great. It's going to make a huge difference to me! - so now the bloody K1 is going to be a pretty much mandatory purchase - and soon! I don't own a full frame standard lens either (except the 77mm Limited) so I'm going to end up buying the 24-70mm F2.8 too I suspect...
It's looking like an expensive month!
I'm getting conflicting reports of either immediate body availability at the end of this month but some are saying April - anybody actually know? I'm also a bit concerned that with 14 years of pent up demand there's a high probability that the initial shipments will end up sold out and certainly no discounting will take place at first.
Personally I can't wait to get my hands on one!
