And how would you describe a company which market share is 4,5% ( DSLR sales in 2015; compare to Canon: 54,7% and Nikon 39,1%)?
... while making money? A lot better than a huge one bleeding.

I would not be surprised at all if the Q did bring better ROI than Samsung's mirrorless effort.

You look at sales figures and see Japanese girls. That is an assumption. Pentax and Ricoh have a name in photography so it is never too late to jump into mirrorless. The GXR system was a mirrorless system remember? They will focus on DSLR's for now but there is a mirrorless plan which will be set into motion once Canon and Nikon put their cards on the Table.
Pentax is a (D)SLR company. In fact, they are the purest SLR company among the Japanese manufacturers. They made the first Japanese SLR and didn't make non-SLR until 1986. Pentax is the last manufacturer you should ask for a mirrorless from....

That's why they will be the last one to go mirrorless (on aps-c an FF anyway)

Perhaps this has already been answered, but I can't find confirmation anywhere.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but the official Pentax site states:
"The new PENTAX 35mm full-frame digital SLR camera features a Crop mode, which allows you to select the image size to be recorded, with a choice of three settings: AUTO, FF and APS-C."

Is that saying the new FF camera will have an option to crop at APS-C regardless of the lens?
So the camera basically has a 1.5 TC in-body?
What happens if you put a TC on the FF with the Crop mode on?
I'm very curious about this...

Yes, you can crop regardless of lens thereby getting an APS camera.
A teleconverter will work just the same as on any APS camera when the FF is in crop mode.

Ricoh is a large company: it is far larger than Nikon and almost as big as Canon. Don't confuse the imaging division, which includes Pentax, with the whole corporation.

No it has no in-body TC but a crop mode that only keeps the center of the picture, resulting into a 16 MPix photo.

A TC provides optical magnification, not merely cropping the image with the resulting illusion of magnification..

Regarding this mirrorless talk... I have the strong feeling a FF Ricoh GR is about to emerge. So that's what we could (and should!) expect instead of a K-02.

(Still loving my K-01!)

So crop mode would be no different than taking the photo in FF mode and cropping the image?
Seems redundant?

My K-01 is still my preferred second body.

Not when using aps-c lenses with a limited image circle. Screws up metering.

My impression is that it would allow you to skip the cropping step since the camera would handle it and give you a smaller file in-camera to save you storage space.

I'm also guessing that while the optical finder will show a masked full-frame image, the screen will show the image with the correct crop.

I think it's a nice solution for people with a lot of aps-c lenses...

Interesting. That's what I figured, the viewfinder will still show the full-frame.

It is a nice way of saying that with the Pentax FF, it is backward compatible to any lenses you have owned so far (DA, FA or manual lenses). This is probably the only company that does that - not Canon, Nikon nor Sony). If they allow me to choose some off-center focus points for manual lenses, that would be awesome.
