Two years ago I would have been perfectly happy if Ricoh just released a K-3 with a 24MP full-frame sensor and called it the K-1. Now, after all these FF delays and rumours, and the release of some pretty impressive cameras from competitors, I really hope Ricoh bring something new and impressive to the table with the K-1. Not merely some APS-C cropping and lens correction options that, in one form or another, every other FF camera in the world has already.

Pixel-shifting in FF and new AF module (better than previous pentax model).. That's all I can imagine. Now a days it is hard to create something complete new as all the patents and technology breakthroughs are well known...

For example, Pentax has 70-200 patent applied in 2010. That's why it will announce it soon... It does not have 24-70 and 15-30 patent, it has to ask Tamron help.. It is simple.

$2700 AUD is about $1900 USD...
So is 1,999 EUR, which includes around 20 per cent. value-added tax.

They said the same in the 1890īs, when they wanted to remove the patent system because all the inventions had been done

Patents in this field are narrow, and there are certainly ways to improve the existing technology. New materials, new technology allow previously unknown solutions. It is not impossible that they are working on a new 24-70 or 15-30, but at the present it seems to have been better to make a deal with Tamron. It does not have to be a complete copy of the Tamron lenses either, just sufficiently similar to be part of the same production line or setup.

Kenspo, is there any word on the rumored Ricoh USA service center? I know that my local dealer won't stock Pentax until they have one up and running.

I don't know that Kenspo would know about movements in the United States. He is based in Europe, after all.

@wtlwdwgn No, I'm based in Europe like @Rondec said. All i know, is that they want to try and improve every "shelf" in the system and make it the same world wide. Now, USA and Europe are like two different companies.

And I'm signed to make waves in the pro marked in my area, so i really dont know so much details around these kind of things. Just what i hear during meetings with other stuff. But i will try to get answers if and when i have the possibility and time to do so

There's a big Pentax weekend at SRS Microsystems, Watford, UK, which is the major Pentax pro partner in the UK. 26th-27th February 2016
One can only guess what will be on display!

Yeah. Sooner or later you actually have to sell the thing to the general public, and then there's no way of keeping it out of the opposition's hands.

This is what patents are for. This "reveal behind closed doors" stuff is just complete rubbish, and I can only hope it was meant as a joke.
