For example, Pentax has 70-200 patent applied in 2010. That's why it will announce it soon... It does not have 24-70 and 15-30 patent, it has to ask Tamron help.. It is simple.
They said the same in the 1890īs, when they wanted to remove the patent system because all the inventions had been done
Patents in this field are narrow, and there are certainly ways to improve the existing technology. New materials, new technology allow previously unknown solutions. It is not impossible that they are working on a new 24-70 or 15-30, but at the present it seems to have been better to make a deal with Tamron. It does not have to be a complete copy of the Tamron lenses either, just sufficiently similar to be part of the same production line or setup.
