Digital FF cameras actually provide a kind of "sour spot" (not "sweet spot") with regards to viewfinder sizes.
MF is hugely better and APSC is much better relatively as well.

Here is an overview that shows the misery (look at the yellow column with mm²):

Remember that both magnification and coverage reduce area squared (they apply to width and height).
MX and MEsuper numbers mixed up. MX has the better VF.

EDIT : checked on KMP:
MX is 0.97x 95%
ME Super is 0.95x 92%

No question. But I have two guys working for me, both love photography and have dslrs. They have wide lenses, normal lenses. But they sit on a shelf and they both take lots of shots with their phones.
I guess it all depends of what the people around you shoot.. In my case most of my friends have their telephotos sitted on a shelf because they dont use them. They do street photography, events, landscape, and studio.

I wouldn't bet on that, you don't have half the earth on PF. It's ofc more but still small figures, that's why you pay good money for those. It's not the same use as a 150-450 ofc and I think I would prefer a 300f4 over the zoom if you need mobility. Canon is designing new compact super tele, this will be more handhold-able and probably sell well even at a very high price point. For sure you cannot ask to have in one year a 300/2.8 a 400 a 500 and a 600 It's redondant and we have a 560. A compact 300/2.8 and 2x TC is a year or two if the FF does well if more realistic I think.
Samsung made a 300mm f/2,8 for NX and have shown prototypes of it several times. But the NX system is probably at the end of the line now. Maybe Samsung have the formulas and production line up for sale?

I hope Pentax will start with a 300/2,8 and a matched TC in stead of starting with a 600/4 or 5,6 and don't have a focal reducer for it.

Samsung 300 F2.8 might be APS-C only...

Pentax used to do a very good FA* 300 f/2.8 themselves - no need to buy in optical designs, at least

I estimated the viewfinder size based on leaked K-1 photos. It is about 1.3x larger than K-3's viewfinder. So if the OVF is proportional, Pentax K1 should be at least 0.76x and very close to LX OVF . Definitely not small!

I'd very surprised to see a telephoto design limited to Aps.

I feel there is something not right about those view finder rumors. The camera is suppose to be only 925 grams light weight with a sturdy metal skeleton, and yet have weight budget for a very large prism. It doesn't seem right. I fear the VF is smaller then the size indicates. So why is it so large? Remember K-3 -> K-3II? The flash was removed to make place for the GPS unit. I suspect the GPS and Wifi units take up space within the top.

thibs: I agree.

Doesn't the prism have to be large enough to cover the area of the viewing screen, which would mean that all full-frame prisms are much the same size? Perhaps someone with greater knowledge could clarify this for me.

Exactly if the camera wants to cover 100%. So all full frame pentaprisms should be similar...
