Judging from this picture posted at dpreview, it's named either K-2 or K-1. Just view it at 100% and you can actually see beneath the white sticker over the name.

Could be the reason behind "Shortly after we asked for a closer look Ricoh representatives removed this camera permanently from view and locked in a cupboard. Oh well."

Hmm, K-1, I think, but not easy to judge.

Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have a winner! K-1 it is!

Does that mean no K-3 successor?

It's in your signature block – K-3II; K-3III; K-3IV etc.

I wouldn't think so. Think how many times Pentax has changed naming conventions...

*istD, *istDS, *istDL (not sure of the order)... where's the *istDZ?
K100D, K100D Super, K200D... wait no K300D
K10D, K20D... wait K30 but not D and not in sequence.
K500, K50 - where's the K70?
K7, K5, K5II, K5IIs, K3, K3II
645D, 645z - um... that's a lot of letters to skip.

Sometimes I think they have magic keyboards they throw things at to make up model names.

As far as I'm concerned, the fact that it already has a name painted on it reveals that the camera is very close to being finalized and released. It really does look like it's K-1.

I'm eagerly awaiting the release date and the price. I will not be an early adopter due to finances, but I should buy it within a year after having been released.

Entry:

K2000, K-x, K-r, K-500, K-S1

Mid:

K100D, K200D, K-30, K-50, K-S2

Pro:

K10D, K20D, K-7, K-5, K-5ii, K-3, K-3ii

Really makes no sense at all. ( I know I skipped some, but they don't make the naming convention make any more sense)

What bugs me about the latest naming convention is that the first digit goes down as models get newer on the high end but up on the middle line and the bottom line has one more digit on one model and the S series is just 1 and 2 with nothing but sequence seemingly.

It makes my head hurt.

Honestly however - looking back and thinking about something as trivial as serial numbering schemes Pentax seems to have always been into numerology rather than math.

I'd totally buy a camera like that. Maybe it could have an arm that adjust the aperture ring on old lenses too.

Looks like K-T to me. But I bet pp means pre production, so it is not a mock-up.

Taking a step back, it's amazing to witness the energy and rabid excitement for this camera and the brand overall. In less than 24 hours, this thread has amassed hundreds of posts, over 40,000 views, and more "likes" than the vast majority of the threads of 2015. 24 hours!!

A lot of these "likes" seem to be just people riding the high and "liking" each other's comments because "omg you're so right! this is amazing, Pentax is amazing, WE'RE AMAZING TO BE A PART OF THIS! TAKE A LIKE!"

Just wanted to say that it's really cool to see such energy around here. You know, with all the impending doom and all.

Keep it up
