Even if there are substantial changes to the body - this release was necessary...
It gives us all something to talk about for the next couple of months if nothing else...

Maybe getting too far into the second derivative here - - but contrary to an error of communication, this establishes Denver (Ricoh Imaging Americas, Ltd.) as insurgents against the all-powerful Japanese borg, a trait an outsider should always establish to engage its apostate followers. Helps build and bind the quirky community of American Pentaxians.
Funny thing how the "bad" guys are always across the ocean. It does not seem very professional to me not to keep your word.
Funny also that most of the "Pentax is doomed" comes not from Japan but USA.

Well, the camera was displayed sitting on a cardboard box, put together with black duct tape. I would expect Ricoh to be a little more "formal" when presenting a new high-end product.
Duct tape is the pro shooters best friend. So using it to display the new camera that is geared towards professionals is only consequent... XD

Our friend asahi man, via DPR, has provided some more info about the appearance and withdrawal of the prototype at PhotoPlus. He seems quite frustrated about how Ricoh is handling the marketing of the FF:

Yes it's right,Pentax Japan headquarter doesn't allowed the show of the 99% final body.
Every office in the world is waiting for the green light to give some information and to get some stuff to show in the internet, but Tokyo says no.
Stupid,it was a very nice action to show this body.
But also in this time the marketing sucks.
Same with the scheduled time 6.October for end of the nda and begin of the training units for Pentax staff and give out the first information paper.
All canceled without any information about this.

Point taken - but understand that 'the bad guys across the ocean' - Hoya - entirely destroyed Pentax in the USA. Seriously - they dismantled the company and close to permanently damaged the brand. It will take years to rebuild, if it is even possible. There isn't a single dealer here they didn't violate, from the largest chains to the single-guy B&M store.

Anyone still shooting Pentax has been disappointed so many times over the past decade that it is hard for many to believe Ricoh.

No being in the US, that is very interesting information. That is not the case in NZ or Australia, where Pentax is a small but relatively well respected brand, that is still carried by a number of specialist and wider retailers, perhaps closer the the Japanese situation.

Did I miss something...I have seen all the details of the photos, dials etc and can work most of the functionality out from that. But I didn't realise a few key details like the sensor spec had been released?

That also helps explain some of the unremitting negativity we see here on PF from some of your fellow countrymen...

Thanks for clarifying. It will be nice to know the fine detail when they do release the spec's. It will also be fantastic to see the camera shipping soon

I can't share anything and have no clue when they are releasing the specs public. But I'm shure they have a plan hehe!

Ricoh really want Pentax to grow, so it will come more stuff in 2016 and forward

I am quietly confident about what Ricoh are doing with Pentax, and look forward to seeing what they develop and release.

Photography is only my hobby though, so my income is not tied up in what is happening - which makes the decisions less critical for me.

Im a pro..And since they actually signed me from another brand, tells me they have plans! I am more then the regular K-3 ambassador. I think I'm one of a very few in that position? I get ALL my gear + they set me up with lowepro and lexar too :P

But some people struggle to see, that it takes time to rebuild Pentax. The production lines and everything, was at a absolute low when Ricoh came in. Hoya did more damage then people know! Pentax will rise..step by step! I have offers from both Sony and Leica, and i know Nikon wants me back..so as long as i stay with Ricoh, you should take it VERY positive..stuff will happen
