Micro management is all the rage in companies lately.

What Pentax marketing doesn't want you all to know is that they couldn't get the More Cowbell sound quite right which is the only reason for the mystery (volume) knob. Realizing they couldn't get that right, they ordered USA to take it away until they got it right. All else could have been ready for full production with delivery by mid-November. In fact, expect Asahi Man to confirm this on Nov. 6th, so stay tuned.

This theory has about as much chance of getting it right as the extensive speculation so far offered on this thread.

Well, the camera was displayed sitting on a cardboard box, put together with black duct tape. I would expect Ricoh to be a little more "formal" when presenting a new high-end product.

Come on, if you bring a prototype to a trade fair you know that the camera will be presented.
BTW Pentax has nothng else to show, nothing new besides announcements and a Tamron lens.

If you show a new camera, you do not just put it on display, you want an event.

My ideas on the new controls knobs.

Use the left one to select what is shown on the small display
Use the right one to select parameters
Use the button on the right one to enter the selected parameter

it's just a mind game. First they show you a mock up with a date in the near future, then they announce delays and somehow somebody screws it up and show you a premod? riiiiight.
What wan we take from this?
a) the camera looks the piece: mean, dense, pro, equipped with the right stuff in the right places.
b) this is serious, not some bob of plastic
c) Ricoh delivers on their promises, even with a tad bit of delay, they have not screwed the faithfull awaiting the arrival of the FF. Waiting for Ricoh to get it right won't hurt the brand that much.

With any luck, it will be with envy when this thing comes out. Ditto Canon. As for Sony's camera division, expect them to fall on their swords. If there is a Sony sensor in this thing, Ricoh are going to have to grip them by the throat and ensure the QC is reliable, because the last thing we need is substandard sensors "just happening" to make their way into the first run of Pentax FF cameras.
