Blad do have "full 645" sensors.
Close, but not 56*41.5 mm. The biggest size is 53.9 x 40.4. It's old CCD sensor, by the way.
I think BSI-CMOS sensors from Sony don't need bigger size to reach high specs for DR, colour and signal-noise.

Who would be the customers for this larger sensor? The current sensor is bought by all medium format company's. In relatie large numbers, read maybe up to 10.000 units a year in total. Now if the larger sensor of 56x41.5 would sell only 1.000 copy's a year (if even) then it would become very expensive.

Ron, the total yearly sales of digital cameras and backs is lower than 10,000 units. And, as you say, there is a cause behind the high price of 'full 645' 60 and 80 mpix digital backs.

Possible, but unlikely. I think reason for this is that while almost nobody uses 35mm film anymore, medium format still has film users, which might be a market opportunity.

A new 35/3.5 doesn't sound that interesting. The 28-45 is really great wide open and offers f/4.5, the differenceto 3.5 is quite small. What is lacking within the program for 645 D and Z is a real wide angle since th 25mm has been discontiued. A lens that is able to replace the old 35mm and 33-5mm on FULL 4.5x6. Would have to be either a 20-28 zoom, or a prime between 20 and 24mm.Off course DA, not DFA, to keep pricing OK.

Is that à joke ?
Remember the price difference btw DFA25 and DA25, not really significant.

But the DA 25 was not a new optimized for crop design, it was the same lens as the DFA but with a hood change.

A complete redesign on DA would be smaller I would think, and could be cheaper too.

It is good that pentax is planning ahead and keeping their options open.

The 28-45mm is a feat and a half though, I would have thought that a DA25mm would be easier to make, thus a little cheaper.

Like I have always said, the top shelf heavy lenses like the 28-45 should not need OS as they are for the most part a tripod use lens.

I personally think there should be a thought process involved in selecting which lenses get OS and have wider apertures.

I would like a 30 or 35mm f3.5 OS, 55mm f2.8 OS, 120mm f4 OS and maybe even a 250mm OS for traveling handheld, all lightweight. Then prime/zooms of 22mm, 28-45, 45-90, 90-180 all smaller apertures of f5.6, no OS and highly corrected and sharp from 5.6 onwards.

Different tools for different occasions and you would buy them all. You would have light 24-28mm, 45mm, 90mm, 200mm equivalent OS primes for travel and some strong zooms for tripod landscape work.

I don't see any info about motor drive - SDM, DC? Screw-drive?

Specs and photo have now been published. This looks like minor update, not even adding DC, SDM or WR and retaining the aperture ring.

It seems like the main changes are the optical element and the coatings, so that could make a meaningful difference to the IQ. I guess we can expect a number of similar updates to the popular FA 645 lenses over time.

Sounds good for me...

I do like the current FA35 Prime a lot. The only complaint is about the vulnerability for flares and purple fringes in backlighting situations. Seems the update exactly target at this Point. Price is not a bargain, but seems ok.

We will see...
