Very nice to see "our" company being honored with the innovative Ricoh Theta S 360-degree camera!
What if Ricoh get another honour next year with their FF camera ??

I just noticed this thread. It's great news for Ricoh and I hope they get a bit of good press coverage for it during the event.

There was also an interesting report on Mirrorless Rumours last week about the Theta S being a big seller over Christmas.
Guess what was the hottest Christmas camera seller: The Ricoh Theta S! - mirrorlessrumors

And from what I can see it's also been selling well in Japan. They have been running TV ads for it for a while now.

So the product is actually selling in big numbers without big discounts. When you think about it, it makes sense. People like devices that work with their phones and social networks. People like recording what they do and including themselves in those pictures. VR is supposed to be a big trend this year, and the Theta takes videos that can be viewed in VR. It seems like the right device at the right time.

It kind of makes me laugh to see commentators and bloggers decrying the camera industry for not being innovative enough, but when something actually innovative and a bit disruptive comes along, they just dismiss it as a gimmick. I note that this website and Imaging Resource were the exceptions in taking the Theta seriously and giving it a proper review. I'm guessing that if the Mirrorless Rumours site is right about Theta selling well on Amazon, we might see more coverage from DPR some time soon.

Good news. With all the VR hyping this year the Theta should be in it's place.

Looked into it and #15 on the best seller list amazon England.

I think that is for a Brand like Ricoh in camera very good.

Overal camera sales, and Especially point and shoot are still down a lot according to cipa's new figures for november.

No one is going to know about the Theta now that Nikon has come out with their 360 view action camera...

Do we know price? Do we know size? Do we know picture quality (apart from resolution)? Do we know ease of use? Do we know...? Nokia OZO seemed to be Theta killer already...

"KeyMission 360" might be the worst camera name since *ist. It sounds like a video game from 1992.

Keymission 360 Is Nikon's First Ever Action Camera

Not much is known.. aside from it looking like that and shooting 4K resolution videos... it also looks like it has no on-board memory which is a plus.

I was considering the Theta S but a ruggedized version with expandable memory is much more appealing to me.
