Hmmm.

While the camera image looks very K-01, the back of that patent image reminds me a little of the back of the Pentax FF. The frame around the rear LCD of the FF in particular.

I thought about this one. This will never see the market unless.... So it's not fitting any recent smartphone that came to market. They are huge compared to the screen of camera's.

So the unless......
They have to make a smartphone that comes with the camera. A screen that detaches of the camera that has a phone functionality. ...

Could be expensive.

The illustration is all about principle. Its not a CAD file for a prototype.

I guess its an adjustable mount and WiFi connected or via a flexible USB-C cable.

Or maybe its not a phone at all. It could be a Pentax wireless LCD screen that is supplied with the camera.

Oh, and i hope we can get a Pentax camera phone too. (DNG, decent quality, lots of buttons and wheels, flip up frame type view finder, flip out hood and lens protection)

I can buy "universal" smartphone/tablet supports. You don't chop the phone to fit the support, instead the support adapts to the phone's shape.
Same thing here.

One thing that puzzles me is that we all have smartphones. So you don't need this screen anymore. You just need a good app.

That's the idea, the question is - for what kind of cameras it would work?
IMO it's something similar to the Sony QX100 concept (and other like it): I see it as extending the photographic capabilities of a smartphone, and less as adding functionality to a camera.

L.E. Indeed, the smartphone is not included

Is this a microwave oven?

Seriously, the patent leaves me scratching my head about the innovative power of Ricoh. The DxO ONE (designed 2013) is about what Ricoh would have had to envision and this microwave oven is far from it. Even if only a sketch of the general idea.

No, IMO, this is exactly a DXO one-like concept, shaped like crap cause you don't wanna tell others what you're really after.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the shape just yet. For example, many camera patents refer to cameras that have been discontinued long ago instead of the current lineup for similar reasons.
DXO made something like this, and I think Sony as well (DSC-QX100)? Don't know how well Ricoh can pull it off. Maybe it could be a viable continuation for the Q lineup (small mount and register distance; K-mount might be too unwieldy and fixed-lens designs might be too common to differentiate the product).
That said, many patents never see the light of day, so I won't hold my breath waiting for this
