Wow, that looks tiny.
With a 1.4 tc on there it would be a lot smaller than a 'normal' 800 f5.6, for an 840 f5.6.

The 600 F4 DO and 1.4 TC and 1D X would be an amazing setup... if you had $20000 laying around. I would prefer getting this to a Leica though

This is hard to answer since the 600 DO is still a prototype (the pictures on the former page were taken during the 'Canon Expo' in Paris). The current Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM weighs a little bit less than 4kg and Canon state that the 600 DO is 30 per cent. smaller than its older brother. So 2.5 to 3kg?

Independently from new lens technologies such as DO and BR, tremendous progress have been made concerning the weight of extreme telephoto primes: IIRC the smc Pentax-FA★ 1:4 600mm [IF] ED weighted 6.8kg.

At least its not as long as the Pentax HD 560! Although the Canon is likely heavier - i think that image is the Canon 600 DO? I might be wrong

Your second picture shows the Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM with its green ring. It weighs 2.1kg. The Canon EF 600mm f/4L DO IS USM is a 'L' lens and, as such, has a red ring.

The HD Pentax-DA 560mm f/5.6 ED AW weighs a little bit more than 3kg. The Canon 600mm f/4L DO IS USM should weigh approximately the same, may be a bit more but not that much: remember, it is said to be 30 per cent. smaller than the current Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM, which weighs a little bit less than 4kg.

The Canon DO (diffractive optics) lenses are still very long focal length, therefore still heavy and rather unaffordable.

IMHO, lenses the style of the Nikon 300/4 PF (Nikon's term for diffractive optics) is more Pentax style: affordable (i.e., well below $2000) and light-weight (750g). I particularly would like to see an DFA 500/5.6 PF from Pentax below $2500 and below 1000g. IMHO, that would greatly add to the attraction of Pentax as a system. Economically and technically, I checked that this would be a viable option.

Yes, that would be interesting. A friend has the 300 pf and it is very nice.

Just sayin', here is what wrote one of the two people working in the Paris Pentax shop, about comming Pentax FF (on a French Pentax forum) :

FF, un appareil que personne n'a dû réellement avoir en main, testé jusqu'à présent (d'ailleurs, si il y en a un, qu'il se manifeste !).
(dated 27th november 2015)

Which translates as :

"FF, a body that no-one should really have taken in it's hands, tested until now (btw, if there's one, let him aknowledge that !)."

Soo...

I'm still confused about what that quote means.

Is that guy saying that no one in France has been able to personally [in-hand] use the FF yet?

Hardly surprising, since the camera circulating around is probably not a working device, just a dummy to test handling, or something.

That's what he means indeed.

And i don't think anything is circulating yet either in France.

Classically, in order to reduce leeks, final production models are circulated only once official announcement has been made or only a few (2-3) weeks before, under NDA... (and very often they only lack final release FW version, which obviously wasn't the case of the Paris salon's mock-up).

Maybe the camera is far from ready.
